Fall Practice Report: 8/13/2017 Format: (AM) Helmets/ (PM) Shells

Summary:
 Bobcat Football took the field for another early morning practice. With the birds chirping and the sun peaking over the horizon, they went to work. In the competitive period of 7 on 7 the offense got down and dirty. The firsts trike coming from senior Travis Carnahan as he delivered a beauty of a pass to senior running back James Sluka who ran a fly route out of the backfield down the middle of the field. Slithering through the defense he peaked out behind the safeties and scored his first touchdown of fall practices. The defense’s communication was left in bed this morning as they found themselves inviting senior Jake Coughlin “down the yellow brick road,” leading right into the end zone unguarded for a 15 yard touchdown. Defensive Coordinator De’Ontae Pannell let it be known to his defense that what they experienced during the 7 on 7 period is not acceptable by any means. “Move your feet!” He yells at his guys. As chests hit the floor and grunts roar out from the players mouths, coach imprints on their minds that this session is to never repeat itself. The evening practice was a completely different story.

The Oak Bowl found itself alive for the evening practice and both sides of the ball were well awake and ready to compete. After a few individual periods and going over play reviews the bobcats started out with a 7 on 7 session rematch from earlier that day.

With Coach Pannell’s words fresh on their minds, senior Justin Barnes stepped up immediately and capitalized on a muffled

reception snagging it from the receiver and giving the defense a rush of momentum. The offense rebounded with big catches from receivers David Bond (Junior) who has showed major improvements in his hands, Dwight Howard (Junior) who made a great catch on the sideline, and senior AJ Flodman. Carnahan and Flodman are displaying a deep chemistry built up over the past three years they have played in the same system together. 
 
 Following the 7 on 7 period, the Bobcats headed into a team period. The defensive line flexed their muscle during this period allowing minimal rushing yards. Uriah Carroll was a madman on the field today showing great athleticism and a fire to beat whoever Flodman grabbing a sideline pass from Travis Carnahan. This accounted for Flodman’s 4th catch of the evening. was lined up across from him tonight. He finished the practice with two great plays stuffing the running back at the line and two sacks. Carnahan had to utilizine his legs having to escape a few times out of the pocket and get the ball off before taking on any losses behind the line of scrimmage. There’s a case to be had for sophomore running back Tajh Eaddy who refuses to stop his feet and will not go down on first contact. The offense did find the end zone at the end of the period on a screen pass to the outside.
