Overview Safari Doctors is an award-winning community-based organisation in Lamu, Kenya. The dedicated team works to improve access to primary healthcare for remote and marginalized communities through mobile medical outreach. The indigenous Aweer and Bajuni number around 20,000 people and live within the archipelago and on the mainland near the border with Somalia. Neglect and insecurity have impeded their access to vital health services. In 2017, Safari Doctors launched a youth Health Ambassadors program, engaging young men and women who receive basic health education and training, to facilitate our outreach work and empower their communities. Position Job Role The Program Officer is responsible for organizing and overseeing our monthly outreach clinics, developing income-generating projects that help sustain the initiative and ensuring that Safari Doctors maintains a sound and innovative financial model for delivering healthcare to remote communities. The Program Office reports directly to the Executive Director. Salary is available upon a successful initial application.
Core Responsibilities ● ● ●
Oversee the development of Safari Doctors programs through staff development, project management, and implementation. Create budgets for project costs and program expenses, whilst working closely with other officers, suppliers and financial supporters in developing budgets and monitoring adherence to these. Build and maintain partnerships with other local/international organizations and donors in order to expand resources and educate the general public about Safari Doctors’ activities.

Prepare and supply monthly and quarterly reports on programs and activities as needed. Develop and manage commissioned and funded monitoring and evaluation initiatives (qualitative and quantitative). Coordinate overall program portfolio to ensure key performance indicators are met and program impact is in line with Safari Doctors strategy. Work closely with finance and communications teams to share information about program portfolio, pipeline, specific projects and program impact. Coordinate and attend outreach clinics as per designated routes and recruit specialist attendance according to community needs.
