What makes us who we are? We have been diligent in defining who we are, who we strive to be and what makes us good at what we do here in Bruneau - Grand View. Through discussion, survey, reflection and consensus we have identified a set of values which reflect where our time, effort, energy and focus are well- spent.
I
Start with Why In all we do, we Start with Why. We work to develop and maintain a culture in which we feel safe and comfortable questioning what we do, and why we do it. Knowing why we do what we do, develops a confidence & buy-in for what we’re doing while promoting a climate of inquiry and clarity.
II
Culture & Climate Culture is defined as what we do. What we do contributes to our climate how we feel when we’re at school. Culture is determined through shared norms, while climate is representative of shared perceptions. We explicitly and systematically work to develop our culture as a means to develop a healthy and positive climate in our district.
III
Culture & Climate Our schools dedicate time and energy to building a sense of community among our students through the use of multi-grade “community groups." These groups focus on addressing and reducing bullying in our schools. We study and use Tom Thelen’s Victimproof curriculum and teachings as the platform for reducing bullying - together, as a school community within our junior high. III
Culture & Climate Sources of Strength empowers peers leaders to assess and develop strengths in their lives. Students are connected to trusted adults and are encouraged to impact our school through the powers of connection, hope, help, and strength. We believe that many strengths are more powerful than one, and our united goal is to activate and mobilize these strengths in ways that positively change individuals and our community. This is a school-wide approach, with high school student led campaigns.
III
Data-Based Decision Making We meet regularly in our Professional Learning Communities in order to: 1. Explore best practices together, as a team 2. Discuss and design student interventions 3. Study student achievement & progress monitoring data 4. Make informed decisions regarding reading and math instruction
IV
Data-Based Decision Making We make student-centered decisions based on best practices, research and the data at hand. Our intention is to make decisions based on data, rather than feelings or emotions.
IV
Professional Development Our District makes the professional development of its staff a high priority. We dedicate significant time, energy and money to ensure that our staff members experience meaningful growth during their career. Our leaders work hard to ensure staff engage in targeted professional development, relevant to their role with the BGV District. V
Professional Development Professional Development provided through: • Training from State Department support staff • Attendance at third-party conferences • BGV Admin - developed trainings • Structured book studies • Working with outside agencies such as RURAL & Conscious Classroom Management
V
Professional Development Professional Development topics include: • Climate & Culture development • Interpersonal relationship building • Classroom management • Formative assessment • Technology in the classroom • Curriculum • Centers and group design V
Community - Minded We strive to build partnerships with our families, community members, businesses and other local agencies. We believe that community engagement leads to improved student achievement, better attendance, stronger and more involved families, and healthy local partnerships.
VI
Community - Minded We design field trips, community outings, student events, and parent/teacher conferences with our community in mind.We have several community partners, including Idaho PTECH, Bureau of Land Management, and Idaho Power. We work to serve as a neighborhood anchor, supporting community use of the school facility for after-hour activities that enrich the lives of our students and families.
VI
Team - Oriented We are committed to one another, as teammates. We are not a group of people working towards the same goal. In this model, one of us can fail without effecting the others. We are a team. We rely on one another to help our students succeed. When one of us fails, it affects us all. When we succeed, we celebrate together. VII

VIII
Is BGV Right For You? We seek the humble, hungry and smart. Humble Humble people are quick to notice contributions from others and slow to seek attention for their own. They share credit, emphasize team over self and define success collectively rather than individually. Hungry Hungry people almost never have to be pushed to work harder, because they are self-motivated and diligent; always looking to learn and achieve more. Smart Emotionally smart people have good judgment and intuition around the subtleties of group dynamics and know the impact their words and actions have on those around them.
X
Is BGV Right For You? Having the right skill sets is only one factor we consider; we want to invest in a teammate whose personal values align with those indicated here. Can you bring a positive influence to our school's climate? Are you willing to develop using a growth mindset? If so, BGV may be a great fit for you.
