Saving Meriden’s College, Exploring Keno Expansion & Banning Single-Use Bags on CT-N Capitol Report: Week in Review

Hartford, CT – This Friday at 7 p.m., Connecticut Network viewers will receive updates on the continuing story around a plan to close a college campus in Meriden, the debate on whether to make Keno legal throughout the state and other happenings at the Capitol on this week’s episode of CT-N Capitol Report: Week in Review. Last week’s episode of Capitol Report discussed the State Senate’s effort to block a plan put forth by the Board of Regents for Higher Education which would close Middlesex Community College’s satellite campus in Meriden. This week the House of Representatives passed the Senate’s bill which would require the Board of Regents to receive legislative approval before making such closures, thus saving the Meriden campus. Meanwhile, the Senate turned its attention to a bill regarding sexual assault investigations on college campuses. The bill, which will require sexual assault forensic examiners on the University of Connecticut’s Storrs campus, passed unanimously through the chamber. Elsewhere at the Capitol, the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee heard testimony on a bill that would allow the expansion of Keno throughout the state and the Planning & Development Committee became the second legislative committee to vote on a bill that would ban retailers from distributing single-use plastic and paper bags. Capitol Report will also review the explanations given by the Judiciary Committee’s House Chair and Senate Ranking Member in regard to the committee’s lack of action on its deadline day, as well as UConn Coach Geno Auriemma’s strong words for Governor Dannel Malloy and the legislature as Husky Day is celebrated at the Capitol. Capitol Report: Week in Review summarizes the activity at the State Capitol during the week, using voice over and graphics to combine history, context, and next steps in the process with full-length excerpts from the week’s proceedings. The program premieres on CT-N every Friday night at 7:00 p.m., then rebroadcasts at Noon and 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, 8:00 p.m. on Sundays, and 6:00 a.m. Monday mornings; check CT-N’s online program schedule for additional airtimes.
