What: School Garden Coordinator Where: The Salmon School Garden Project Salmon School District #291 Application deadline: January 8th, 2016 About the Salmon School Garden Project The mission of the Salmon School Garden Project (SSGP) is to develop a school-based garden and corresponding Farm-to-School program, fully integrated into the Salmon School District’s long term learning environment. Position Description The Garden Coordinator will engage in all aspects of the one-acre, organic Salmon School Garden. S/he will manage the garden and work cooperatively with district faculty/staff, students and community volunteers to support learning in the garden, the kitchen and the classroom. This includes developing and integrating garden-based curriculum, activities and programming with the Jr/Sr High School, Pioneer Elementary School, and Salmon Alternative School. S/he will design and conduct weekly garden classes for all grade levels, facilitate lesson and garden planning, and guide volunteers, students and the SSGP Steering Team in the development and maintenance of a productive and educational garden. In addition, the coordinator will directly assist with the development of a Farm to School initiative, focusing on sourcing local and regional foods for use in the District’s food service program. This position is a 12-month contract, averaging around 20-35 hours per week, depending on seasonal and educational needs and is funded by a USDA Farm-to-School planning grant. Required Skills and Experience: •
Garden knowledge o Applicant should have working knowledge of gardening and be willing to work collaboratively with the SSGP farmer mentor and consultant. o Applicant must have the ability to safely engage in garden related tasks including heavy lifting, shoveling, and simple tool maintenance.

Leadership
o Applicant should demonstrate strong interest and experience with working with kids in an outdoor learning environment. o Applicant should be a collaborative leader who can conceptualize, communicate and engage with the SSGP team and project stakeholders; o Applicant should be creative with demonstrated success in organizational capacity building; o Applicant should organize and manage community volunteers effectively, thoughtfully and respectfully; o Applicant must be able to maintain a high level of performance while working independently •
Communication o Applicant should be a dynamic, confident and vibrant spokesperson for the SSGP with strong verbal, written communication, and social media skills.

Fund Development o Applicant will collaborate with SSGP team members on fundraising, including but not limited to grant writing, event planning, and donor cultivation. Experience in fund development, budget management and planning is preferred.
