F&F Unit 2: Summarization (Aug. 31st-Sept. 18th) We have begun our second Foundations and Frameworks Unit, Unit 2: Summarization. The entire class will be reading The World According to Humphrey. New pattern statements, visual tools, vocabulary and process questions can be found in the reading notebooks and your child’s binder. It would be great for your child to go ahead and start studying these components. Just like with the sequence unit, your child will have an assessment that tests their knowledge of the pattern statement, process questions, and visual tool. (You may also scan the QR code below to download this information.) Each unit will be assessed the same way. The “performance task” will require students to take a fresh text and complete the visual tool. The “Skills Knowledge” test will require students to know the pattern statement, visual tool, and process questions. The “Vocabulary” test will require students to use vocabulary words in sentences as well as matching the word to its definition. Please contact your child’s teacher with any questions that you might have.

Please make sure that your child has tennis shoes for PE. It is in the student handbook that students should wear tennis shoes during PE for safety reasons. If your child wears flip flops or sandals to school please send them with a change of shoes.
Eden Grade Level shirts are now on sale for $10. Order forms have been sent home. The third grade level shirt will be the shirt that we will wear on field trips and May Day. This year the shirt will be aqua blue. Please include your phone number on all checks.
Field Trip Information will come home soon.
These awesome third graders are on their way to earning perfect attendance for the nine weeks. If they maintain their impressive attendance record, they will be entered to win a $15 gift card to Wal-Mart, courtesy of the third grade teachers. Everyone with perfect attendance at the end of the nine weeks will earn a homework pass, and ice cream. Attendance is very important to your child’s education. Unless your child is really sick please try to send them to school. Also, remember students are tardy when they are not in their seat at 7:50. It is easy to fall behind when you are tardy or absent often. Don’t forget to send an excuse within 3 days of each absence.
Be sure to use your PUBLIX Partners card each time you shop at Publix. Eden earns money from each use. If you need more cards for friends and family, let your child’s teacher know. Another way to help Eden earn money is to use the Shoparoo app. All you have to do is download that app on your smart phone or device and take pictures of your receipts from any store. It is that easy! We are still collecting aluminum cans to cash in for money towards the new projects. You may drop your cans in the receptacle near the outdoor classroom. Spread the word and have your friends and coworkers collect cans for Eden.
The Box Tops Challenge has begun. Please start sending them to your child’s teacher.
Mystery Book Report This year your child will have one book report each nine weeks. The first assignment should be sent home September 4th. Students are asked to read a mystery and complete a “Detective Case File.” Everything needed has been sent home. Projects are due October 9th.
We are starting MULTIPLICATION this week. We will begin with the zeroes and ones. A new fact group will be introduced each Friday and tested the following Friday. Is it important for your child to study each night. You may study the flashcards in your child’s binder, find a cool app, or visit a website. Just practice!
Please sign and return your child’s progress reports as soon as possible. Thank you for all that you are doing for your child at home!
