Chris has just about finished updating the membership list so we will send that out as soon as it is finalised. We have just over a hundred members which is great.
Retreat Day 12 of us went to the last retreat day. These days are well worthwhile to get projects completed or started. The next one is 7th October and I would encourage you to come along. It is a great way to get to know other members. There is always lots of advice and new ideas to share. There is no charge, just bring your lunch. Community Quilts Our next Community Quilt day is 21st October 2017.
Classes Kaleidoscope Class. I will take this class on 9 September. Contact Robyn if you wish to do try this
quilt. The popular vote for Dianne Southey’s class was her New York Beauty. She will show participants how to design their own quilt. This class is on 18th November. We will look at doing one of her nature landscapes or Karen Eckmeier’s “Happy Villages” next year. We also have Diana Carroll’s class – Make an elephant or a Pukeko stained glass wall hanging on 28 October. We need more numbers for both the above classes so do think about participating. Remember it is now only $15.00 for a class.
Speakers Anna Williams (who repairs Turkish rugs )is the speaker at the next evening meeting. We are planning an activities evening in October. If you have any ideas for speakers we would certainly welcome them. Please let one of the committee know if you have any great ideas.
Stands for Show snd Tell Quilts
I have visited the Menz Shed and we now have some quilt stand feet that will be much easier to store in our cupboard. They come apart and lay flat in the cupboard with the result we now have more storage space and room for new books as well. I was absolutely blown away by the number of men working at the Menz Shed – what a busy, buzzy place it was. We have made a donation to them for the work they have done for us as they do not charge for their work in the usual way.
Mystery Bus Trip Dont forget Tuesday 17 October. This trip is open to all members. We had an enjoyable day visiting shops and exhibitions last year. This is a date to put in your diary. Beryl and I have plans for this day in place now. Please let me know if you are coming and I will add your name to the list. We will be leaving from the Bridge Club at 8.45 am –no pickups on the way on this trip. Cost is $10.00. We are not able to stop for morning tea so please bring a snack and drink if you can’t last till lunchtime which will be around midday. There will be a toilet stop mid morning. There will be places to buy lunch. Return time should be about 4.00pm.

This exhibition includes the Wellington Quilters’ Exhibition which always has some interesting quilts. A goos excuse to go to Wellington and do a bit of shopping as well. From Sylvia Carlyle Below is a link to a short video about cotton fabric printing. You may already know about it, but it was a real eye-opener for me. The film is fascinating, but some of it made me very uncomfortable, especially the preparation stages.
