How to become a New Volunteer for Santa Fe Public Schools: 1. READ, COMPLETE, SIGN & RETURN the required paper work. *Documents can be found at Volunteers must register with 3M Cogent prior to being fingerprinted. Fingerprints must be done www.sfps.info immediately u of registration. under the Community tab and Volunteering in Santa Fe Public Schools. Register with 3M Cogent at www.cogentid.com. Choose New Mexico and then click Register Online for a Background Check. Internet Explorer or Firefox (MAC computers) will work with Cogent. 2. Register with 3M Cogent prior to fingerprinting (see page 2): Follow the instructions for Fingerprint/Background process. Fingerprint sites are listed at www.cogentid.com (out of state locations are available, if needed). Santa Fingerprinting Fe locations are: 4491 Cerrillos Road; UPS Stores: 3201 Zafarano Dr., Ste. C, or 3005 S. St. Francis Fingerprints and background checks are required of all volunteers who are volunteering at SFPS sites or Dr., Ste. D. departments on a regular basis. This policy is for the safety of everyone. 3. Wait for your background to be cleared: You must wait to receive your Volunteer Clearance Letter (result times will vary) from the Volunteer Coordinator, before you may start volunteering. Once your clearance is received, obtain your SFPS Volunteer photo ID badge at 610 Alta Vista; and The Volunteer Coordinator will need assign you to a specific site or program. Note: The principal of the school or director of the department is the ultimate decision maker about all volunteer activities at their site/department. Any volunteer deemed inappropriate or unacceptable for volunteering in a school or classroom by the principal or director may be barred from participating. AT THE SCHOOL SITE: Volunteers must sign in at the school’s front office every time they arrive at the school on the volunteer signin sheet. Your volunteer ID must be worn & visible at all times while at the school site. Volunteers are expected to follow site specific rules, which may vary from school to school. Volunteers are expected to follow all emergency drills or actual event procedures. At all times, volunteers work must be in an open, supervised environment with students. Volunteers may not be alone with students at any time. Volunteers may not bring their children and/or pets while performing volunteer duties. Appointments are not required. You may visit any fingerprinting location during any of the site’s scheduled fingerprinting hours. Check the website for hours. Bring your Registration ID number. If you are paying by money order or cashier’s check, made out to 3M Cogent.

Refunds will not be granted if an applicant has already been fingerprinted. It is the applicant’s responsibility to verify the registration information is correct prior to being fingerprinted. Improper registration will require you to reregister, repay (applicant’s expense) and refingerprint. Improper registration includes: o Entering demographic data incorrectly. o Registering under the wrong agency. Refunds will only be issued if an error was made by a 3M Cogent Customer Service Representative while registering an applicant through the Call Center. 3M Cogent reserves the right to retain a refund processing fee.
