Cape Fear Community College Student Government Association Senator Information All students must meet the following candidacy eligibility, as outlined in the CFCC SGA Bylaws: 1. All activity fee-paying students shall be eligible to run for Student Senate. 2. All candidates must be currently enrolled and have a grade point average of not less than 2.0, both for the current semester and cumulatively. 3. No candidate may be serving academic probation or suspension. 4. No student who has been placed on probation by the College for violation of the Student Code of Conduct is eligible to hold a senatorial position. 5. All candidates must have attended at least one semester with a minimum enrollment of nine (9) credit hours. All candidates must complete and submit the online “Senator Application” form. Duties of Senators: -To appoint an Alternate to represent the Senator as needed; -To attend all meetings of the SGA or notify the Alternate if unable to attend; -Each member of the Student Senate must maintain a 2.0 grade point average, both semesterly and cumulatively; -To report pertinent information of SGA meetings to his or her appropriate audience within a timely manner: -To serve faithfully on all committees of which he or she is appointed by the President of the SGA, Chief of Staff, or presiding officer of the General Assembly; -To participate in all activities of the Association as deemed necessary. Duties of Alternates: -To attend all necessary meetings of the Association in the absence of the Senator and report the results of the meeting to the respective curriculum, club, or organization within a timely manner; -To assist the Senator in the performance of his or her duties; -To assume the position of Senator in the event of a vacancy of the position for which he or she is appointed Alternate; -To participate in all activities of the Association as deemed necessary.
There are three Staff positions within the Senate: Chief of Staff, Parliamentarian, and Public Information Officer. Each of these positions carry responsibilities additional to that of a Senator. The position descriptions and responsibilities are listed below. Please indicate on your application if you would like to be considered for any of these positions. The Chief of Staff is appointed by the President of the SGA, however the remaining two are chosen by SGA Executive Council. Chief of Staff: -To work closely with the SGA President in establishing, maintaining, and increasing relations between the SGA Executive Board and CFCC student clubs and organizations by maintaining constant contact with each club president, advisor, and/or representative; -To assist the SGA President in regards to communicating with student clubs and organizations about SGA General Assembly meetings, club appropriations, proper club charter forms, and other official documentation; -To inform student clubs and organization concerning qualifications of “Good Standing” status and be responsible for verbal and/or written reprimands to student clubs and organizations whom fail to meet the necessary criteria; -To notify student clubs and organizations whose status has become “Delinquent” and to notify them of the revocation of their charter if requirements for “Good Standing” aren’t met within the time period before the next General Assembly. Parliamentarian: -To have a working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order (newly revised edition); -To maintain Parliamentary order at all Student Government Association meetings; -To assist the President on setting the agenda of all Student Government Association meetings; -To hold at least two Parliamentary workshops per semester for the Student Senate; -To serve as President Pro-Tem and conduct a special election should both the office of President and Vice- President be vacated at the same time; -To perform such other duties as the President may deem necessary. Public Information Officer: -To be chairperson of the Social Committee; -To prepare and release publicity to the appropriate media as directed by the SGA President; -To act as liaison with the Administration’s Public Information Officer; -To keep all students’ information bulletin boards properly maintained.
