Board of Trustees Shared Governance Report EOU Faculty Senate Nov. 10, 2016 The most significant issue that has come before the Faculty Senate since the beginning of this academic year has been the proposed restructuring of Academic Affairs. The Senate has been meeting twice monthly to accommodate a process for reviewing the proposal, conferring with constituents, and deliberating openly on the faculty response to the proposal during the public meetings of the Senate. On Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, the Faculty Senate established an ad hoc committee to draft a Senate report on faculty responses to the restructuring proposal. This report will be shared with the Board of Trustees in draft form on Nov. 9, 2016, and will be posted for the faculty at large to review on that same date, as an action item to be considered at the Nov. 15, 2016 Senate meeting. A final draft of the report will be shared with the Provost, President, and Trustees after it has been adopted by the Senate. Additional action taken by the Faculty Senate to date includes identifying Senate representatives to serve on the Strategic Planning Organizing Committee and Accreditation Steering Committee (Dr. Scott McConnell, Economics, and Dr. Nancy Knowles, English/Writing, respectively) and approving a proposal from the Faculty Development Fund Committee to increase the amount of funding available to faculty for research and conference travel to a maximum of $2000. per year, up from $1600. in years prior. The Senate has just begun to receive curriculum proposals from the Educational Policy and Curriculum Committee, with only minor changes to two existing courses approved to date.
