JDIA Youth Hockey 2017-2018 Sherry Epperson Memorial Award Juneau Douglas Ice Association and its board of directors present the first annual Sherry Epperson award program. Each year monetary awards ($200) will be given to one hockey player from each of four divisions (18U/16U, 14U, 12U and 10U) that may be applied to registration costs and/or travel expenses associated with JDIA. Eligible applicants must be registered JDIA hockey players who have not received this award in a previous season. They also must have a current minimum C average (or equivalent for 10U) and be able to demonstrate through references that they consistently represent examples of good sportsmanship. The Juneau Douglas Ice Association board of directors has established this program in honor of Sherry Epperson who was an ardent supporter of the youth hockey program here in Juneau. She was known for her enthusiastic cheering for all players (including her son Cullen Corrigan). She established the Saturday morning coffee table to encourage parents of new hockey players to socialize and develop a type of extended ‘hockey’ family which she benefitted from herself. Proceeds from the coffee table and the annual skills showcase will be used to fund her scholarship. Though she is no longer with us we will continue to feel her positive presence and influence at Treadwell Arena.
