SUSTAIN EVANSTON – LOW CARBON MOBILITY MEETING January 25, 2014 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Avenue, Evanston Healthy Evanston Breakout Minutes
Create a Healthy Evanston Campaign that focuses on getting Evanston residents of all ages to increase their in-Evanston travel by non-auto means. This campaign would focus on trips with an origin and destination within the city of Evanston, giving special attention to the nearly 50% of Evanston residents who both live and work within the city, and to students who go to school within the community. This would work at the grassroots level with block clubs and schools to promote walkin, biking and transit. It would catalyze a range of creative strategies, including walking clubs, safe routes to school, walking school buses, bicycle safety, bicycle pools, and access to cargo bikes, among other ideas. It would work with the Green Teams at Evanston public schools and existing student initiatives. It would develop and roll out a marketing campaign, “Live Healthy” focused on making non-auto mobility fun, social, and active.
