The ApprenticesAct, 1961 has the following objectives:+ * (i) (ii)

To regulatethe programmeof training of apprenticesin the industryso as to' conform to the prescribedsyllabi, period'of training etc prescribedby the CentralApprenticeshipCouncil;and To utilizefully'the facilitiesavailablein the industry for impartingpractical training with a view to meeting the requirementsof skilledworlieis in the ,r industries.

As per the Act, it is not obligatory on the part of the Railways to offer any employment to on completion of their ^Apprenticeship training. Accordingly, the_th: Act.Aqprentices Apprentices imparied training in niiiway establishments,

Selection Procedure for Decentralised Notificationl As per the guidelinesbelow for selectingAct Apprenticesfor training, notificationis to be issuedby each of the concernedUnits individuallywhere Act Apprenticesare to be engagedfor training and all the proceduresfor selectingAct Apprenticesfor t r a i n i n g w i l l co n ti n u e to be handled by the units concer nedin a dec entr al i z ed manner. (i) A JA/SGGradeofficer of PersonnelDepartmentmay be nominatedby the CPOof the Railwayto monitor the issuingof notificationsand to ensure that all Units where Act Apprenticesare to be engagedfor training, issue their notifications timely. All individual notificationstrade wise/categorywise of individualunits will be vetted by this nominatedofficer.A report giving complianceof issue of full notificationby all the concernedUnits in the Zona| Railway,ProductionUnit, RE where Act Apprenticesare to be engagedfor training, should be put up to Ge n e ra lMa n a g e rfo r his infor mation. ( i i ) T h e n o ti fi ca ti o nsh o uld clear ly mention the last date of applicati on,pr obabl e date of display of list of selected candidates and tentative date of co mme n ce me not f training. ( i i i ) T h en o ti fi ca ti o nsh o u l dbe publishedin the locaIdaily wher e the conc er nedU ni t is located, where Act Apprenticesare to be engaged for training, In addition, copy of the notificationshould be sent to local employment exchanges,SC/ST n Associations of the Railway, controlling Board's office of ITI's and the re co g n i ze d R a i l w a y tr ade unions for giving wide publicity and al s o for information to the prospective candidates.The applicationsfrom wards of Railway employees may be forwarded by the authorities prescribedby the R a i l w a yA d mi ni stra ti on.
