Illinois Computing Educators (ICE) Illinois Computing Educators (ICE) is a statewide organization dedicated to leadership in education through technology. Formed in 1986 by a group of 30 educators, ICE has grown to over 3,800 members comprised of teachers, technology coordinators, library media specialists, administrators, university faculty, school support staff and other stakeholders in Illinois education. ICE continues to show leadership in educational technology by supporting educators in the effective use of current and emerging technologies and best instructional practices to enhance student learning and engagement. What is TECH 2017?

Purpose

Since 1990, students and educators have convened at the Capitol building in Springfield, Illinois to demonstrate ways they use technology to enhance learning and prepare themselves for success in today’s digital world. Students are given an opportunity to share projects and activities that exhibit innovation and creativity, while also emphasizing the critical role that technology plays within education.

TECH 2017 is a not-for-profit initiative supported by a broad range of education and business organizations. Its purpose is two-fold: 1. to raise awareness of the critical role technology plays in preparing students to succeed in today’s world 2. to emphasize the importance of allocating funding for educational technology at the state level

TECH 2017 SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS

Elected officials, business leaders, and the general public are invited to attend the event and see firsthand the remarkable projects students from across the state of Illinois are developing.

TECH 2017 gives our teachers and students a voice to increase awareness of the importance of technology in schools and influence the future in doing so. Technology is not equally present in all Illinois schools. As a result, students from districts without up-to-date technology face a serious disadvantage that negatively impacts their future. TECH 2017 is focused on enhancing our state legislators’ awareness of the necessity to develop a plan to promote adequate, equalized and reliable funding to meet school technology needs. The TECH 2017 student showcase allows policy-makers to have a hands-on perspective of the value in supporting student access to continually-evolving technologies that will prepare them for the challenges of the 21st century. The TECH 2017 Committee thanks the General Assembly and our corporate partners for their generous support of this program.

Applications All schools and districts in Illinois are encouraged to apply to participate in TECH 2017 by visiting http://www.iceberg.org/tech. Applicants are required to provide a project description that illustrates how technology is used as a tool to enhance the curriculum, increase student understanding, and ultimately transform the learning environment. School selections will be made on the basis of: • the location of the school within the state • grade level • type of demonstration proposed • diversity in student learning styles Selected applicants will bring one team of NO MORE THAN four (4) representatives from their school. This team of four must consist of two or three students and one or two teachers or administrators, all of whom will collaboratively demonstrate the submitted project to their local elected officials and all other TECH 2017 attendees. All expenses (travel and other) incurred by participating in TECH 2017 are the sole responsibility of the participating schools. In addition, TECH 2017 will provide each participating school with an 8-foot table to share with another school and wireless internet access. Participating schools are responsible for supplying all other equipment needed for their demonstration, including but not limited to laptops, tablets, video cameras, speakers, document cameras, batteries, etc.
