Installing the TETRIX Blocks Before NXT-G can be used to program the Motor and Servo Controllers in the TETRIX system, TETRIX-specific blocks must be installed. Follow the steps in this guide to install the TETRIX-specific blocks.

Verify that NXT-G is installed

Make sure that the NXT Programming Software (NXT-G) is installed on your computer. Also, check with your computer administrator that you have all of the necessary priviledges to install software on your computer.

Download the TETRIX Blocks

Download the TETRIX Blocks from the “TETRIX Blocks” section of this guide, or visit http://tetrixrobotics.com/ downloads/default.asp and download the latest HiTechnic Move Motors and Move Servos blocks.

Extract the HiTechnic Move Motors Files The TETRIX Blocks downloads are downloaded as compressed files.

Before they can be installed, they must be extracted. Right-click on the HiTechnic Move Motors file and select Extract All...

Extraction Wizard

An Extraction Wizard window should appear and take you through a series of steps to exctact the HiTechnic Move Motors files. For each step, just press the Next button.

Final Settings

At the final step of the Extraction Wizard, uncheck the Show extracted files box, and press Finish.

Extract the HiTechnic Move Servos Files

Follow the same steps you used with the HiTechnic Move Motors compressed file to extract the HiTechnic Move Servos compressed file.

Open NXT-G

Open the NXT Programming software (NXT-G) to begin installing the TETRIX blocks.

Open the Block Import and Export Wizard Once NXT-G has started, go to Tools and select Block Import and Export Wizard...

Select Browse

Once the Block Import and Export Wizard appears, press Browse to locate the TETRIX blocks.

Select the TETRIX Move DC Motors Folder Navigate to where you downloaded and extracted the HiTechnic Move Motors files and select the folder. Press OK to confirm your selection.

Import Settings

The Block Import and Export Wizard should automatically find the HiTechnic Move Motors block in the folder. Click on the name of the block to select it. Select Action from the drop-down menu next to the Add Block to Palette option to import the block into the Action palette.

Select Import

Press the Import button on the Block Import and Export Wizard to import the HiTechnic Move Motors block.

Overwrite Files

A series of windows may appear, asking if it is ok to overwrite existing files. Press Cancel each time it occurs.

Import the TETRIX Move Servos Block Follow the same steps you used for the HiTechnic Move Motors block to import the HiTechnic Move Servos block.

Close the Wizard

Once the HiTechnic Move Servo block has been imported, close the wizard.

Start a New Program

To verify that the blocks were correctly imported, or to begin programming with them, start a new program in NXT-G.

Locate the TETRIX Blocks

If you followed all of the steps in this guide, the TETRIX blocks should be located in the Complete Palette, under the Action Subpalette.
