The New Canvas User Interface The new Canvas User Interface (UI) is an updated interface structure enhanced by a responsive user experience for the Dashboard and Global Navigation menu. The Course Navigation menu also collapses on smaller screens, allowing for a more content-focused and responsive layout.

1. Navigation: navigation has moved from the top of the screen to the left side. 2. Account Settings – quick access to Profile, Settings, Notifications, Files, ePortfolios, and Logout. 3. Course Card/Activity Stream Toggle – toggles the main area between Course Cards and the Global Activity Stream. 4. Course Card – Access courses directly by clicking the Card. Note: Only Favorited Courses will display as Cards. Select your favorites by clicking Courses on the left Navigation menu. Then click the All Courses link. Click on the Star next to the courses you want to display. 5. Card Settings – allow all users to change the color of the card and change the name of the card if desired. 6. Course Activity Tabs – Direct access links to Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, and Files are available only if they are enabled in the individual course. A line below the tab indicates new activity in the course. 7. View Grades – global grades are now located on the bottom right-hand side of the screen. 8. The Help link - is now located on the bottom left-hand side of the screen. 9. Logout – easily exit out of the system by clicking the “logout” link on the left navigation menu. 10. Access to the Inbox, Library, & Calendar

Once inside a course;

Click on the icon of three stacked horizontal lines to collapse or restore

the Course menu.

Additional Tips 

The Course View may vary depending on which browser you are using and what type of device.



Only Favorited Courses will display as Course Cards. Select your favorites by clicking Courses on the left Navigation menu. Then click the All Courses link. Click on the Star next to the courses you want to display.



All of Canvas support site guides and videos have been updated to show images in the new User Interface. Make sure you check any links you have in your courses to make sure they reflect the change.
