How blest are those who do not see yet place their faith and trust in me They shall have life eternally: Alleluia! Alleluia! Become to us the living bread by which the Christian life is fed Renewed and greatly comforted: Alleluia! Alleluia! Become the never-failing wine, the spring of joy that shall incline Our hearts to bear the covenant sign: Alleluia! Alleluia! O sons and daughters, sing your praise on this most holy day of days For Christ from death to life is raised: Alleluia! Alleluia! Call to Worship and Morning Prayer

Yolanda Appiah-Kubi, Deacon of the Week

O God, make the doors of this church wide enough to receive all who need love and fellowship Yet narrow enough to shut out all envy, pride and strife. Make its threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling block to children, nor to straying feet But strong enough to turn back the tempter’s power. O God, guide us to sincerely welcome all people created in your image. Show us your presence in those who differ most from us, until our knowledge of your love is made perfect in our love for all your children. O God, we thank you that in all parts of the earth A community of love has been gathered together by their prayers and labors, and that in every place your servants call upon your Name. Together we worship, offering you our songs of thanksgiving and praise. Please join me in prayer.

We now on earth have union with God the Three in One And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won Oh, happy ones, and holy! Gather Us In / Únenos Hoy

Congregation Matthew Daley, Piano John Dautzenberg, Organ

GATHER US IN

Here in this place, the new light is streaming, shadows of doubt are vanished away See in this space our fears and our dreamings, brought here to you in the light of this day Gather us in, the lost and forsaken; gather us in, our spirits inflame Call to us now, and we shall awaken; we shall arise at the sound of our name. Not just in buildings, small and confining, not in some heaven, light years away Here in this place the new light is shining, now is God present, and now is the day Gather us in and hold us forever; gather us in and make us your own Gather us in, all peoples together, fire of love in our flesh and our bone. Communion: Invitation to the Table

Reverend Lea

Prayer of Confession

Reverend Lea

Most merciful God, We confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may walk in your ways. Amen. Words of Assurance

Reverend Lea

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9) Giving Thanks

Reverend Palacios

Sharing Communion To celebrate communion by intinction, approach stations using inside aisles. Return to your seat using outside aisles. A gluten-free option is available at the front, to your left. SINGING OF FAITH AND FUTURE At Calvary Clouds of Witnesses Surround Us ST. PAUL

Carol Blythe, Jess Lynd Sanctuary Choir and Congregation Matthew Daley, Piano

Choir sings v. 1-3. Clouds of witnesses surround us, saints whose heritage we claim Christ’s own love has bought and bound us, one with all who bear his name Here, within this congregation, trusting your strong Word alone Help us build on this foundation: Christ, the living cornerstone. Holy Spirit’s fire, falling where your faithful people pray Fall on us, expectant, calling, gathered in your name today Come, through word of mystic power; come, through water, bread and wine Gifts of grace upon us shower, Christ’s pure light among us shine. Send us where your people languish, lost in depths of sin, despair Send us where they lie in anguish, wounded, wasted, bowed with care Lord, your Gospel’s Word of freedom let our lives, our lips reveal ‘Til the long awaited kingdom comes this broken world to heal. (Continues next page)

All join in singing. Help us, as the saints before us, bear with faithfulness your name ‘Til we join the mighty chorus singing hymns of glad acclaim Praise the Lamb, once slain, victorious over death forevermore Father, Spirit, ever glorious, Triune God whom we adore. To God Be the Glory

Calvary Chamber Singers

TO GOD BE THE GLORY / arr. Pepper Choplin

To God be the glory, great things He has done So loved He the world that He gave us His Son Who yielded His life an atonement for sin And opened the life-gate that all may go in. Refrain. Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear his voice Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice O come to the Father through Jesus the Son And give Him the glory, great things He has done. O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood To every believer the promise of God The vilest offender who truly believes That moment from Jesus a pardon receives. Refrain. Great things He has taught us, great things He has done And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son But purer and higher and greater will be Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. Refrain. O God Beyond All Praising THAXTED

Congregation John Dautzenberg, Organ

O God beyond all praising, we worship you today And sing the love amazing that songs cannot repay For we can only wonder at every gift you send At blessings without number and mercies without end We lift our hearts before you and wait upon your word We honor and adore you, our great and mighty Lord! Then hear, O gracious Savior, accept the love we bring That we who know your favor may serve you as our King And whether our tomorrows be filled with good or ill We’ll triumph through our sorrows and rise to bless you still To marvel at your beauty and glory in your ways And make a joyful duty our sacrifice of praise.

Invitation to Discipleship

When In Our Music God Is Glorified Cuando Ofrendamos Música al Señor

Congregation John Dautzenberg, Organ

ENGELBERG

When in our music God is glorified, and adoration leaves no room for pride It is as though the whole creation cried: Alleluia! Las notas son escalas de ascensión llevándonos a nueva dimensión Y nuestro culto expresase en canción: ¡Aleluya! So has the church, in liturgy and song, in faith and love, through centuries of wrong Borne witness to the truth in every tongue: Alleluia! No fue Jesús quien salmos entonó aquella noche en que a la cruz marchó Cantemos, pues el triunfo nos granjeó: ¡Aleluya! Let every instrument be tuned for praise! Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise And may God give us faith to sing always: Alleluia! Amen! Affirming God’s Call We give thanks that you have been guided by God to this moment. As a community of faith, we welcome you into the membership of this church. We pledge to love each other and to work together to grow into the fullness of Christ. Beginning June 19, we’ll study Jim Wallis’ latest book, America’s Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege, and the Bridge to a New America. Jim Wallis published his book this year so churches like ours could be leaders in the ongoing struggle for racial justice and racial reconciliation. He takes us through the history of our country and through a careful study of scripture to show how racism is our country’s original sin. He challenges us to turn away from this sin and follow God into a “new America.” During our series, different teachers lead us through a chapter each week, touching on their areas of expertise. As many in our country advocate for more rights and freedom, our book study is sure to be relevant for a time such as this. Don’t miss this series and this opportunity to learn and engage deeply about race, white privilege, sin, and reconciliation. Contact Pastor Elijah. KENNETH CARR, INTERMENT AT ARLINGTON CEMETERY, Thursday, June 16, 1:00 p.m. A brief memorial service in the chapel is followed by graveside interment, then a reception at Hilton Garden Inn, Arlington Courthouse Plaza location.
