The class began with silent, sustained reading. However, the teacher did use a GoogleDoc when she met individually with students to discuss their books. Students worked on a writing assignment on GoogleDocs which is automatically share to teacher so that he can provide feedback. This writing assignment is part of a "digital portfolio" that students add on to throughout the course of the year. A handfull of students use their Netbooks to take notes during reading assignments.

Notes Students used Quizlet to study roots and words by making their own "practice sets". They also used their Netbooks to help one another practice for Poetry Out Loud recitations. Students are using a website to edit films outside of class. Word study list was projected on the screen while students followed along with their handouts.

Research Information gathering

Students "jogged the web" (jogtheweb.com) to find information on Ancient Greek civilization and the Olympic games. The teacher projected the site on the screen, which allowed the students who couldn't log on to the website to follow along with the rest of the class.

Students used Netbooks and Google Docs to work on a writing assignment. Students used Netbooks to work on their vocabulary assignments in pairs. Students use study aids and resources available on the teacher's website. Teacher shared resources on her website for students to use when completing their Independent Reading Projects. Students can choose from a variety of tech programs to use: Photo Peach, JayCut, Aviary, and Audacity.

Writing assignment Guided discussion questions for the play are posted on message boards for groups to collaborate on their responses. Students are taking a vocab quiz using a Google Doc. It took some students awhile to log in.
