Truth Momentum—Part 24 Acts 14
August 15/16, 2015
FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) 14:2 The New Testament equates unbelief in the gospel with disobedience (John 3:36; Romans 2:8, 15:31; Ephesians 2:2, 5:6; 2 Thessalonians 1:8; Titus 3:3; 1 Peter 4:17), since “God is now declaring to men that all everywhere should repent” and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 17:30–31). 2) 14:3 emphasizes the power of your witness and God’s enabling behind it. 3) 14:4 The teaching gradually polarized the population, which is the expected result when the gospel is properly presented. 4) 14:6 There was nothing more they could accomplish by remaining. It was time to move on to where God could use them more significantly.
11) 14:15 Paul knew his audience, and instead of proclaiming the God of Abraham, he spoke of the Creator God. 12) 14:16-17 Because their deeds were done in ignorance, they were not held accountable to the same degree. But Jesus had come, revealing God. They were now accountable. 13) 14:20 Only individuals who know that what they are doing and communicating is of the utmost importance walk back into the city where the people had tried to kill them. 14) 15:27 Paul and Barnabas kept all their accomplishments in the proper perspective, noting that God had done all those things through them. GREEK WORDS Apeitheō (ap-i-theh'-o) to disbelieve (wilfully and perversely) :- disobedient, obey not, unbelieving Hormē—indicates impulsiveness; suggests an action not controlled by reason; literally; “a rush” or “an assault”
5) 14:5-7 Paul and Barnabas were bold; bold does not mean stupid. Boldness is the quality without which nothing significant can be accomplished for the gospel. Boldness is what enables believers to persist in the face of opposition. 6) 14:8 Luke’s threefold description of the man denoted his hopelessness. 7) 14:9-10 Luke’s readers knew the miracle was performed through God’s power. But the people at Lystra did not know that and therefore jumped to the wrong conclusion. 8) 14:11 Miracles, by themselves, do not produce faith. Miracles, by themselves, do not produce conviction. They must be accompanied by the Word of God.
