Tzouanakis Intermediate School

Tzouanakis Intermediate School-Wide Behavior Plan The staff of Tzouanakis Intermediate School believe a structured and consistent discipline policy is a useful tool in providing an environment conducive to learning. Every staff member will be using the same discipline policy to give the students more consistency between teachers. Our goal is to decrease the amount of behavior problems so that our students can achieve their academic potential. We also want to praise and put more emphasis on the students who behave appropriately by providing incentives and highlighting their achievements.

Parents will receive a behavior sheet every week that shows their child’s weekly citizenship grade. This sheet must be signed and returned according to the teacher’s guidelines or the student will receive a DNF.

Detentions Detention sheets will be sent home to inform parents of the detention. Parents must mark what day their student will be attending.

The Program Every week, students will receive a citizenship grade. Each student begins the new week with an A+ and receives grade reductions if they receive a caution, a pit stop, or a did not finish (DNF). The weekly citizenship grades are averaged to come to the final nine week grade.

We know you can you stay on TRACK!

Cautions: Students receive cautions if they break a rule. Any teacher or staff member can give a caution. For every caution that a student receives, his or her weekly citizenship grade will be reduced by 2/3 of a letter grade. Pit Stops: Students receive pit stops for severe misbehavior or if they have three cautions in one day. Any teacher or staff member can give a pit stop. For every pit stop that a student receives, he or she will make a visit to the office. His or her citizenship grade will also be reduced by two letter grades unless otherwise determined by an administrator. Did Not Finish (DNF): If a student receives a DNF, his or her weekly citizenship grade will be reduced by 1/3 of a letter grade. For each 5th DNF the student will receive an after school detention. A student may receive a DNF for breaking one of the following responsibility rules: -Missing assignments -Not being prepared for class -Signed slips not being returned -No names on papers

All after school detentions will be served in the TZ Media Center from 3:00-4:00 on most Tuesdays and Thursdays. TZ teachers will staff the detention.

Responsibility Rules The TRACK team feels these four rules were directed towards students being responsible and not directed towards specific behaviors. Therefore, they were separated from the other cautions. If a student breaks one of the responsibility rules then they will be recorded as a “DNF” for Did Not Finish. “DNF’s” are not cautions or pit stops. DNF’s are for...  Missing Assignments  Not prepared for class  Signed slips not being returned  No names on papers For each 5th DNF the student will receive an after school detention. DNF’s will start over each week.

During detention, your child will be expected to:

 Complete any missing or late class work  Work silently without any assistance  Complete a packet that focuses on the choices that resulted in detention (if the student is up to date on all class work) If a student does not attend detention, parents will be contacted to reschedule for the next available detention. If a student doesn’t attend the second detention, then he or she will be in the office for one day. Parents will be called to discuss their child’s actions.

*CELEBRATION* Winner’s Circle What happens to those students who display good citizenship and positive behavior on a regular basis? Classroom acknowledgement: Students receiving 0 cautions and no more than one DNF on a weekly basis will be acknowledged in their classroom.

9 week reward: Students whose weekly citizenship grades average to 95% or higher for the nine weeks will celebrate with their grade level. This might include an extra recess, an educational movie, a time to play educational games, etc. Semester reward: Students whose weekly citizenship grades average to 95% or higher for the semester will celebrate with other students from the entire school.
