United Way of Long Island and Operation Rebuild & Recovery Partners Coordinate Caregiver Appreciation Day for Hurricane Sandy Volunteers Gathering at Adventureland Thanks All for Their Hard Work
Deer Park, NY, June 20th, 2013- Operation Rebuild and Recovery, the volunteer effort to re-build many of the more than 58,000 homes on Long Island damaged by Hurricane Sandy has been and will continue to be a long and arduous road. Thanks to a collaboration between United Way of Long Island, Health & Welfare Council of Long Island, the Long Island Volunteer Center and the Long Term Recovery Group, a multitude of volunteer recovery and re-build projects are underway in such communities as Long Beach, Freeport, Lindenhurst, Mastic Beach and other areas affected by the storm. Work performed includes muck-outs, clean-ups, mold removal, construction repair and weatherization, but services have also been offered to improve the emotional and spiritual state of the survivors. On June 19th, representatives of Adelante of Suffolk County, Inc., AmeriCorps St. Louis, Family Service League, Federation of Organizations/Project Hope, FEGS, Long Beach Reach, Lutheran Social Services, Lutheran Social Services/LDRNY, NECHAMA/Jewish Response to Disaster, and Salvation Army gathered at Adventureland in Farmingdale to relax, re-charge and appreciate their accomplishments. "We thank the many organizations who have worked so hard helping to get so many Long Island families back on their feet. Operation Rebuild and Recovery is an enormous and critically important undertaking, as well as a rewarding collaboration for everyone involved," said Theresa Regnante, President and CEO of United Way of Long Island. United Way of Long Island, Health & Welfare Council of Long Island, The Long Island Volunteer Center and the Long Term Recovery Group are planning a much larger event where more caregivers and volunteers will be able to participate later
