Upcoming Webinars on LGBTQ Student Well-Being Sponsored by the School Safety Technical Assistance Center & Advocates for Youth Three webinars are being offered to school staff on improving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) students’ safety, inclusion and well-being. According to the 2016 Minnesota Student Survey, LGBTQ students report elevated experiences of bullying and harassment, physical assault, anxiety and depression. Additionally, 83 percent of transgender and gender nonconforming students in the 9th and 11th grades reported they had “seriously considered suicide” in the past year or in their lifetime, and 36 percent reported having attempted suicide in their lifetime. Simultaneously, LGBTQ students report that they are also blocked from full school participation, according to the Minnesota State Snapshot on LGBTQ students, administered by GLSEN. Participants of the webinars will increase their knowledge of research-based strategies to support LGBTQ students, review new data and receive corresponding resources.
