Veterans Directed Home and Community Based Services empowers YOU to take control of your life choices. NOW, financial assistance is available through the Veteran’s Administration to help veterans get the help they need to live well at home.

This program (VD-HCBS or the Veterans Directed Home & Community Based Service Program) allows VETERANS to: n

Identify their specific needs and create a plan to purchase goods and services

n

Hire employees, including family and friends, to assist them with those needs

n

Set wages, benefits and schedules for their employees

n

Create and manage a budget with the help of a VD-HCBS Consultant

n

Receive Financial Management Services to process timesheets, payroll and employment taxes

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE? All Veterans who reside in Tarrant County and are enrolled in the VA health care system are eligible if they meet some of the following conditions: n

Need help with three or more activities of daily living

n

Are at risk for nursing home placement

n

Have significant cognitive impairment

n

Receive hospice services

n

Live alone

n

Have clinical depression

n

Are capable of directing their care alone or with the help of a designated representative

Even Veterans who DO NOT meet any of these criteria may still be eligible if the local VA Medical Center determines they need services.
