ABC Unified School District AD HOC BOARD ADVISORY COMMITTEE - FACILITIES

VISION STATEMENT: “In order to maintain outstanding student achievement and enhance the quality of education for all students, and to prepare students for the competitive collegiate and career markets of the 21st century, the ABC Unified School District must maintain, repair, upgrade, expand, and improve its educational facilities.”

Committee Charge: The Board of Education appoints community members to the Ad Hoc Board Advisory Committee - Facilities (Committee) to evaluate capital improvement needs of the District and to provide recommendations to the Board of Education on long-range facilities planning. The Committee will review, amend, revise, update, and prioritize the current Facilities Master Plan. In order to carry out its charge, the Committee should consider but not be limited to, the following: 1. Current and projected school enrollment for each grade level, based on residential housing growth patterns in accordance with city/county general plans and other demographic factors 2. The District’s educational goals, including the District Strategic Plan and Local Control Accountability Plan 3. Current and projected educational program requirements to ensure that our schools are physically equipped to deliver the instructional programs 4. Student safety and welfare 5. An evaluation of existing buildings and needs for modernization and renovation 6. State planning standards and local zoning requirements 7. The community’s social, economic and political characteristics 8. Estimated costs associated with meeting the District’s facility needs 9. Facility equity – A global assessment of the equity of facilities among District campuses 10. Review funding options to support the needs of facilities

Duties and Responsibilities: To accomplish its purpose, the Committee shall have the following responsibilities: • • • • • •

Provide recommendations on long-range facilities planning and amendments to the Facilities Master Plan; Evaluate current use of District facilities and review critical needs, including overcrowded and under enrolled schools; Evaluate technology and 21st century learning environment needs; Engage the community in dialogue regarding long-range facilities and capital improvement needs in support of the District's strategic plan; Assist district-wide community outreach efforts to increase public awareness of the facilities planning process and capital improvement plans Develop recommendations for long-range capital improvement needs and facilities modernization plans;

Timeline: The work of the Committee shall not be longer than 12 months from the date of its first meeting. The Committee will update the Board on a regular basis (quarterly) of its progress, and provide the Board with a final report.
