Title of Volunteer Position: Volunteer Interpreter (Chinese Clinic) Reports to:

Volunteer Co-ordinator

Description of the role:     

To provide a confidential interpreting service through Chinese and English for clients who attend our Chinese Immigration Information Clinics To assist Information Officers in providing an information and advocacy service to clients who present to our clinics through Chinese and English To assist with translation of information leaflets and documents when required To report any major issues with the service to your line manager To attend quarterly group meetings

Support offered to the volunteer:    

Induction will be provided Feedback sessions (with Volunteer Co-ordinator) will be arranged for each volunteer interpreter on a regular basis Internal/external training will be provided as required Travel and lunch expenses will be paid to a maximum of €10 per session once receipts have been submitted.

Essential Skills/attributes:    

Fluent in English and Chinese Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to volunteer within a team environment Commitment to Crosscare Migrant Project’s core values of love, respect and excellence

Desirable skills/attributes:  

Previous interpreting experience Knowledge of the Irish Immigration System

Location of volunteer position: Crosscare Migrant Project, 1 Cathedral Street and 2 Sackville Place, Dublin 1

Days/hours for volunteer position: Varies; generally one (2 hour) session per month either on Tuesdays from 4.00pm –6.00pm or Thursdays from 10.00am – 12.00pm. Attendance at one group meeting per quarter (4 per year) Duration of volunteer role: We ask for a one year commitment to the volunteer role
