City Council Steve McClary, Interim City Manager July 8, 2016 Weekly Update
Four Citations Issued for Short-Term Rentals The City issued four administrative citations this week for illegal short-term rentals of property. These are the first citations to be issued since the City lifted its ban on enforcement of short –term (less than 30 days) property rentals (also known as vacation rentals). The four citations contain fine amounts which total $31,000. The City is in the process of taking additional enforcement actions, which will likely include additional citations to violators. In addition, the City has sent 47 letters to owners of suspected short-term rentals operating in the City for advertising their short-term rental. That has been followed up with nine cease-and-desist letters sent to property owners who continue to advertise. The enforcement of short-term rentals remains a top priority for the City’s code enforcement staff. Further enforcement options will be discussed at the July 12 regular city council meeting. Cultural Resources Committee Meeting set for July 11 An ad-hoc Committee on Cultural and Historic Preservation has been meeting since 2015 to discuss possible amendments to the Ojai Municipal Code Title 4, Chapter 8 related to Cultural and Historic Preservation. The Committee is meeting on Monday, July 11 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Ojai City Hall. This is a public meeting and the community is encouraged to attend.
