City Council Steve McClary, Acting City Manager September 11, 2015 Weekly Update
Coastal/Waterway Cleanup Day On Saturday, September 19 the Green Coalition will lead a Creek Cleanup effort from 8 am to 1 pm. The focus is the creek running through Libbey Park, possibly continuing past Montgomery if time allows. EJ Harrison is providing free bin service. Communication Training City staff held a training with representatives from the National Alliance on Mental Illness this week to learn about effective communication with the mentally ill population. Council Chamber Thermostat This week staff met with Ojai Mountain Air to try and figure out a way to adjust the heating and air conditioning in the Council Chambers. The current problem is the dais receives most of the cool air and the audience in the back area is hot. Ojai Mountain Air said the most economical solution for the council chambers is to put baffles in the ducts so staff can reduce the amount of air going to each vent. Additionally, the duct to the vent over Council Member Clapp is attached to the air box in such a way that it gets twice the air as any other vent. This at the very least is going to be changed. The final part of the solution will be to change the air diffuser so staff can have better control over how the air is dispersed in the room. Staff is waiting for an estimate from Gary. Staff is also considering installing a web based thermostat so it can be adjusted from the netbook at the Recorder’s/City Clerk location. This will help prevent staff from having to cross the room to adjust the thermostat during meetings. Staff also learned the thermostat in the chamber lobby does not control the conference room. The thermostat in the hallway controls the temperature in the conference room. With this new knowledge the temperature will be adjusted so holding meetings in this room is comfortable. There will be an adjustment period while staff and Mountain Air are working through the bugs. Please advise staff if you are extremely hot or cold.
