WHO IS WENGER? Arsène Wenger (Strasbourg, France, October 22, 1949), is a former footballer, coach and French economist. Wenger was born in Strasbourg, France and was raised in Duttlenheim. He was introduced to football by his father, the manager of the local team in the village. After a career as a modest player, in which he made several appearances for amateur clubs, Wenger won the title of coach in 1981. After an unsuccessful period at Nancy, which culminated with his dismissal in 1987, he joined AS Monaco , club with which he won the league championship in 1988. In 1991, Wenger led to the victory in Monaco the Coupe de France, but his inability to regain the league title in subsequent seasons led to his departure from the club by consent mutual in 1994.2 Trained briefly, in the Japanese J. League, to the Nagoya Grampus Eight, where he won the Emperor's Cup and the Japan Super Cup during his stay.

In 1996, he was appointed technical director of Arsenal, and two years later he won the League double and FA Cup.4 He led Arsenal to appearances in the 1999-2000 UEFA Cup Final and FA Cup final at 2001, and a second League and Cup in 2002.5 Arsenal retained the FA Cup in 2003 and a year later regained the league title, becoming the first club to win the league the entire undefeated season since Preston North End, 115 years before. The team would later outshine Nottingham Forest and its record of 42 league matches undefeated over seven games before losing in October 2004. Arsenal made its first appearance in a Champions League final in 2006, although they lost to Barcelona . In 2012, the club qualified for a 15th consecutive season in the Champions League, despite its worst start to the season in 58 years. During his tenure, Arsenal moved to a new training center and moved to Emirates Stadium in August 2006, after 93 years in Highbury.

The nickname "Le Professeur" is used by fans and the British media to reflect Wenger's studious behavior. His approach to the game emphasizes an attack mentality, with the goal that football should be entertained in the field. Wenger's teams are often criticized for their lack of discipline, their players received 80 Red Cards between September 1996 and October 2010, although the team has won awards for sportsmanship (fair play). In Monaco, Wenger gained a great reputation for spotting young talent, and he has focused on the development of a training sport, his clubs develop young players instead of buying the expensive and experienced ones. He has been criticized for closely following his principles, and football experts have questioned his ambition to win trophies.
