Wednesday 3rd December 2014 Dear parent/carer, This is a brief note to let you know about some important events at the end of this term (a more detailed newsletter will be sent home during the last week of term). On Monday 15th December, our sixth form pupils are organising a series of fundraising events in aid of the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity. As part of this, pupils are asked to come in to school wearing a Christmas jumper, a pair of sunglasses or both and donate £1 for the privilege of doing so. We have worked with the charity who suggested that in order to partly experience the issues faced by someone with impaired vision, wearing sunglasses would help to develop this understanding and provide us with a starting point on which to begin discussions about the issues concerned. During the day, we will be helped by representatives from the charity to run some activities aimed at raising awareness including, hopefully, our pupils seeing guide dogs at work. There will be many other fundraising activities during the day, all organised by our sixth form pupils. Our aim is raise £1500 as, if we are able to achieve this, the charity will be able to purchase and train a guide dog. We will then be given the honour of naming the dog and will receive regular updates on progress and so on. I am sure you will agree this is a very worthwhile cause and hope you are able to support us in our fundraising efforts. On Thursday December 18th at 7pm, we will be holding our Christmas concert. This is always an excellent event, where tickets usually sell out very quickly. If you would like tickets, please call in at reception or call us on 411400. Part of the proceeds from the evening will also contribute to our guide dog fundraising initiative. Finally, to confirm, we break up for Christmas at 3.25pm on Friday 19th December. Best wishes
