TORQUE – War of Bands Band Eligibility Guidelines:  The maximum limit of the band members allowed is 8 and minimum is 2.  Each band should provide its number of members, name and at least one full contact information.  There are no restrictions to the genre of the band.  Band members must remain the same; no substitutes or additions throughout the contest period.  Band members could pre-register themselves online at http://zeitgeist.org.in/torque/registration.html or else can apply offline.

Online Round 1:       

Time limit: 4-5 minutes File size: up to 100MB The quality of the video being submitted must be fairly good for validation. All the participating teams have to submit their video positively by 17th March, 2017. Results of the online Round 1 will be declared on 18th March, 2017. Selected teams will directly qualify for finals. Teams are requested to register/submit their videos on http://zeitgeist.org.in/torque/registration.html  Teams not selected in online round can participate in offline Round 1 at the venue.

Offline Round 1:  Each band shall have 15 minutes or a maximum of 3-4 songs (depending on song length) in the preliminary round. The 15 minutes is inclusive of the time of performance alone. An extra 5-7 minutes will be given to the band to set up their equipment along with sound check.  Further time taken will be deducted from 15 minutes given.

Finals:  Please note that a total of 8-10 bands will qualify for the finals.  In the finals, the qualified teams will be given 20 minutes to perform. Extra 10 minutes will be given for sound check along with setting up the equipment.  Further time taken will be deducted from 20 minutes given.

General Rules:     

Language of the lyrics is not a criterion. Lyrics should not be vulgar or provocative or should not bear explicit meanings. Decision of the judges will be FINAL and BINDING. The order in which the bands will play shall be determined by coordinators. All participants must be present at the backstage 15 minutes prior to the time they are assigned to perform.

 Drums will be provided with standard drum kit (double bass drum will not be provided) along with the music setup. Participants are required to bring their guitars, keyboards, sticks etc.  In the event if there is any malfunction, play will halt and the malfunction will be rectified, after which the band that was interrupted will be allowed to start playing from the beginning of the song. It is not permissible to change songs after a malfunction.  Faking hardware malfunction is considered unsportsmanlike conduct and grounds for disqualification.  Any damage to stage setup or equipment’s provided will lead to disqualification.  The judges or the coordinators of the event shall not be held responsible for any loss or damage to the musical instruments of the participating team.

LASHKARA The time has come for you to step aside and choose the path untrodden, unleash the glamour in you, and show the world that conventions are not your cup of tea. And Zeitgeist gives you a golden opportunity to realize your ravishing dreams here at "Lashkara".

RULES:  Fashion Show Competition is open only to college students.  The maximum number of models allowed per team is 26, exclusive of the designer and choreographer. Every team will be allowed 15 min to showcase all their models (empty stage to empty stage).

 Crossover teams can be formed between students of at most 2 colleges, all having valid college ID cards for the current year. No branding on clothes. Sponsors of colleges will be given announcements only.  Team can take help of people outside the college such as designers, choreographers, makeup artists, but these professionals will not be considered to be a part of the team and will not be eligible for the Best Designer or Best Choreographer.  Vulgarity of any kind would lead to disqualification from the event. Hence, if the team feels that any stunt or costume design can be deemed as vulgar, it is strongly advised to consult the coordinators than performing it directly on stage. The decision of the organizers will be final in case of any disputes arising due to this.  The decision of the Event Coordinator will be final and binding on all.  Use of flammable substance like candles, matches, cigarettes or any alcoholic substances would lead to disqualification. Teams are suggested to inform the organizers of any kind of props they are planning to use. We might consider any special request of extra prop based on its feasibility and availability.  The teams are required to bring in their own music in pen drives and one back up in CD and hand over to the organizers at least 6 hours before the event commences. The organizers will be providing the audio equipment to play the music. Teams will be penalized for exceeding the given time limit.  Green rooms will be available behind the stage.  Teams will be judged by a panel of judges belonging to different fields in Fashion.  Teams are requested to register/submit their videos on http://zeitgeist.org.in/lashkara/registration.html Depending on the number of participating teams, Round 1 shall be conducted. Top 8 teams will qualify for the final round of the event.

ROUND 1  Every Team is required to showcase a theme for max 5 minutes on the main Open Air stage.  Teams will be shortlisted on the basis of Music, Theme, Choreography, and Apparel Design.  The number of teams to be shortlisted will be 8.

FINALS:  Maximum time limit for this round is 15 min.  The same theme can be continued from the last round in case teams have prepared just one theme for the competition.  Shortlisted Teams have to show case their next theme/themes in this allotted time.

Mr. & Ms. Zeitgeist Send your photographs along with your name, your college name and a write-up at ‘[email protected]’ of not more than 100 words describing why you should be hailed as Mr/Ms. Zeitgeist.

ONLINE SELECTION: A total of 14 candidates (7 boys and 7 girls) will be selected based on the likes on their photographs posted on zeitgeist's Facebook page. Those who have been selected online will be exempted of the registration fee and will get direct entry to the final/semi-final round of the event, that is to be held during Zeitgeist 2017.  Teams are requested to register/submit their videos on http://zeitgeist.org.in/ mr%20n%20ms/registration.html

OFFLINE ROUND (Prelims): A candidate willing to participate in the competition can do so by registering himself/herself on the-spot. The registration fee for the event is INR 300/-. After registration he/she will have to clear a set of rounds to reach the final/semi-final round to compete with those selected online. The offline selection would consist a written test that would test your skills. A few other criteria may also be introduced if required.

SEMI-FINAL ROUND: If the number of boys and girls who turn up on the day of event are unequal, we'll have a Semi-final round to equal the number of girls and boys qualifying for the next round. In such a case the number of qualifying participants will depend on the number of the boys/girls, whichever is smaller. For e.g. if 4 girls and 5 boys turn up at the event then a total of 8 participants (4 boys and 4girls) will be shortlisted for the final rounds.  In case if the number of participants is 12 or less than 12 and are equal, these will automatically qualify for the final rounds. 6

 In case if more than 12 participants turn up, then we'll have a semi-final round to select a total of 12 candidates (6 girls and 6 boys).  The finalists will then compete to win the title of Mr. and Miss Zeitgeist 2017.  The tentative dates for the semi-final and final rounds will be announced shortly. The participants will be judged by their fashion sense. Girls are supposed to bring their best cocktail dresses for judgment. Boys should bring their formals with blazers. The sequence of entry will be informed before the commencement of the event. Henceforth, candidates will be shortlisted for the final round.

FINAL ROUND (ON-STAGE):  Best Attire: *Pairs would be formed among the short-listed participants to judge the body language, sense of dressing and personality.  Talent Round: Each participant will have to showcase his/her talent on stage. Each participant will be given a maximum of 2 minutes to display his/her talent.  Questionnaire: The last round: Each participant will be asked a question by the judges. He/she gets two minute to think and to answer.  Crowd Appeal will also be taken into consideration.

RESULT: The result will be based on the total sum of points obtained in the all the three rounds. *The criteria for the formation of pairs will be decided on the spot. Judging Criteria:  The decisions of the judges will be final and binding  The time limit should be strictly followed failing which points will be deducted.  The judging will be done on synchronization, choreography, stage utilization, costumes and energy level.

Basic rules:  Minimum of 5 and Maximum of 15 members can be present on the stage at any time.  All costumes, accessories and props have to be arranged by the participating team.  Participating teams have to show their props before their performance to event coordinators. Props which might cause inconvenience to the other teams or cause damage to the stage or the surroundings, will not be entertained under any circumstance (For eg. Naked flames, live animals etc.)  The judges or the coordinators of the event shall not be held responsible for any loss or damage to the props.

RULES: Participation for Junoon is open to all students. Maximum 5 dancers per college. Negative marking for exceeding the TIME LIMIT. If any participant is participating in more than one event and other event is on same day than he/she must inform the event organizer at the registration desk. The order in which the participants will perform shall be determined by coordinators and will be a binding. Any participant that is not ready by the specific time may be disqualified. The team is expected to bring the audio track they are performing on, in a pendrive well before the event (which is to be submitted at the registration desk while registering for the event) and a backup should also be there just in case a problem arises. The dance floor area must be in the same condition after the performances as before. No props will be provided. Teams may use props if they want, for which they should take prior permission from the Coordinator. (Negative marking if not informed before) Participant can perform any dance form/style. Participants are not restricted from performing any move but they must be aware that it is their own responsibility to ensure that they do not perform dangerous moves that could injure themselves or others. Coordinators have the right to bring in safety restrictions. Participants will be judged based on originality, choreography, execution and entertainment value. Variety of dance positions, dance movements, and/or combinations as appropriate to the specific. Difficulty of dance movements and/or combinations from one dance position or alignment to uniqueness or originality of dance movements and/or combinations from one dance position or dance one alignment to another, to include presentation of dance position continuity of dance movements and/or combinations to either interpret dance theme and music, or to demonstrate dance control. Participants must report 2 hours prior to the start of the event. Vulgarity of any form is not allowed in the competition. So, if a team feel as any stunt can be termed as vulgar, it would be best to speak of it to the event organizer, at least an hour before performing on stage. 11

RULES:  Participation for Symphony is open to all students.  Participants should bring their own instruments. Only mics and amplifiers will be provided by the organizers.  Only 1 accompanist (not a vocalist) will be allowed. Accompanist should also bring his own instrument.  Judgement will be based only on the performance of the original participant.  Synthesizer (for accompanist) allowed in piano mode only.  Solo synthesizer player can use any number of sounds.  No pre-recorded sound tracks are allowed.  4-6 minutes will be allotted for the performance. Negative marking for exceeding the TIME LIMIT.  1 minute will be given for setting of the instrument, which will start as soon as the name of the participant is announced.  Participants must report 2 hours prior to the start of the event.  An elimination round may be held depending on the number of participants.  The decision of the judges will be final.  Judging criteria: Rhythm, composition, innovation and overall impact.

Nukkad Natak What can be a better place than the streets to spread awareness among the 'junta' about social issues in a matter which is purely satirical and rhetorical? Streets, a place where 'Real Eyes, realize, real lies'.

RULES: •

Teams shall be given a 10-30 minutes for its performance. Any team exceeding this time limit shall be penalized. After 35 minutes team will lead to disqualification.



Any number of teams may participate from a college. Each team should consist a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 20 members. Cross college teams are allowed provided each member carries a valid student ID card at the time of participation. The teams shall be provided with an open air space of approx. 40ft*40ft to perform. The teams are expected to perform in a circular stage with audience all around.

Language of the Performance should be Hindi/English or both. However, use of other languages must be reduced to minimum. All the participants are requested to reach the venue 1hr before the start of the event. Any prop or material which may lead to a possibility of damaging the ground is not allowed.

Yatharth (Stage Play) "Life's a stage and we are mere actors in this play called life". Yatharth will dazzle you, will break you into tears and as effortlessly into laughter. It will bring with it the joy of live art and of living life the old way, the Real Way.

RULES: The teams are required to submit a short synopsis (not more than 150 words) of the script of their play and a copy of it should be furnished to the judge. Team limit: Maximum: 14 (on stage) and 3 (back stage). Time Limit: Minimum 10 minutes and Maximum 30 minutes (including the stage set up and clearance time). Production material: General props (chairs, tables and mics) will be provided as per the requirement (requirements to be submitted alongwith the form) alongwith light and sound systems. However specific props related to the play have to be arranged by the participating team themselves but the organizers hold the discretion of allowing its inclusion on stage.

General Rules:  Performance can be in Hindi/English/both. However short sub - passages in other languages are allowed.  The time duration includes performance time and stage setting time. The given time duration is from empty stage to empty stage. Plays not within time limit will have deductions on a point system as follows: 1 (one) point for every minute over or under the time limit.  When a play is finished they will have 5 minutes to vacate the stage. The next cast will then have 5 minutes to prepare the stage. For example: play ends at 9:40, stage cleared by 9:45, next play starts at 9:50.  Doors into the auditorium will be closed for the duration of each play so as not to cause distractions with entry and exit. Casts waiting to perform or who have performed are strongly encouraged to attend the other performances.  Stage Play should comprise of multiple scenes and may have blackouts. However, blackouts should be of the minimum time interval, long duration or unnecessary blackouts or scene changing may result in deduction of points. Curtains should not be pulled closed once the play has begun. If the curtain is closed the play must be finished.  Backstage voiceovers and narrations are allowed during the performance.  Pre-recorded music is allowed and should be brought in a pen drive in .mp3 format only. There should be a single audio file containing the audio of the complete play (in case of background music) and a backup CD/Drive should also be there in case of emergency.  Music may also be played live and no restrictions on number of musical instruments used. However, no amplifiers or plug-points will be provided for this purpose. 17

 Any kind of fluid, flame, live animals, heavy objects or any kind of material that damages the stage is strictly NOT allowed and may lead to disqualification.  Vulgar Acts/words/expressions which may cause inconvenience to other teams or audience are strictly prohibited.  Stage should be cleared by the presenting team after their play is over, failing to which will cause imposition of penalty.  Obscenity (at the discretion of the judges) of any kind is NOT allowed and will lead to immediate disqualification.  Inappropriate content, blasphemy or content defaming any political or religious group is strictly prohibited and could result in disqualification.  Teams should be composed of students from the same institute. Teams with participants from multiple colleges are not allowed. Teams from any academy/club like Film Production/ Photography/Dance/Theatre etc. are not allowed to participate.  Teams are advised to bring their laptops along with them and are expected to appoint someone to sit and operate it (if required) during the performance.  At the time of registration the team should inform about Name of the team, team leader, Institute, Number of members, performance time and theme of the play.  The decision of the judges will be final and binding on the participants.

Judging Criteria:  Time Limit should be strictly followed.  Judging will be based on Theatrical contents like quality of sound, Diction, teamwork, acting skill, co-ordination, energy level of team and overall impact.  Overall theme, composition, quality of performance, spontaneity will be taken care of.

EVENTS: (A) FARMER’S WALK:    

Course length : 20 meters Time limit : 75 seconds Weights : 150 kg Athletes must lift the weights above the floor and cover a distance of 20 meters from starting point within a time limit of 75 seconds.  If completed, the time will be noted otherwise the distance of weights from starting point will be noted.  Athletes are not allowed to drag or roll the weights. If the weights are once dropped, the drop distance from the starting point will be noted as the distance travelled.  Athletes cannot throw the weights over the line – they must have contact when passing the line.

(B) DEADLIFT:        

Last man standing wins. Starting weight: 130 kg Weight increments according to contestant. Time limit: 60 seconds for each attempt. Athletes will attempt Deadlift with their selected weights. Heaviest successful Deadlift will be noted. Any rising of the bar or deliberate attempt to do so will count as an attempt. Once the attempt has begun, no downward movement is allowed until the lifter reaches the erect position with knees locked.

(C) SQUAT:      

Starting weight: 70kg Weight increments according to contestant. Time limit: 60 seconds for each attempt. Athletes must squat down until their hip joint drops below their knee joint. Heaviest successful squat weight will be noted. Removal of weights from rack will be counted as an attempt.

(D) BENCH PRESS:  Starting weight: 60kg  Weight increments according to contestant.  Time limit: 60 seconds for each attempt. 19

 Heaviest successful lift will be noted.  Once the bar is lifted from rack, it will be counted as an attempt.  The lifter must lower the bar to the chest or abdominal area.

(E) CAR PULL/PUSH:  Course length: 40metres  Time limit : 60secs  Athletes will push/pull a car loaded with people for a distance of 40 meters within a time limit of 60 seconds.  If completed time will be noted otherwise distance travelled by the car will be noted.

(F) ARM WRESTLING:  This event is open for all.  Last man standing wins.  Contestant is not allowed to slide or lift his elbow from the table.  During a match, a contestant must keep his arm straight.

GENERAL RULES AND GUIDELINES:  Any deviation from the standard lifting rules while lifting will be considered as an invalid lift.  Entries are welcome 2 hours prior to the start of the competition.  Athletes will be given 30 minutes to get used to the equipment and get warmed up.  No lifting costumes will be allowed.  Depending on the number of entries, a prelim round may be held with prior notification to all the participants.  Gear allowed: lifting belt, knee, elbow and wrist wraps.  Before each attempt, athlete will be asked: are you ready? If the athlete is ready, he shall answer with: yes, after which he will wait for the referee's command: go! And whistle and the timer will start.  Decision of the referee will be final.  For each event athletes will be given points according to their finish. Conclave (English Debate) Amartya Sen in his book- 'The Argumentative Indian' says, “We Indians are very argumentative people. App (Idea) For Apple You need to present idea and build a small prototype for an app for iOS platform.
