SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

he liturgy by means of ritual – words and gestures characterized by theological and symbolic value – constitutes the fundamental vehicle of communication for the Church. Seen in sociological terms, the liturgy takes on connotations of a particular system of communication in the context of modernity. It communicates by a "sapiential" form of transmitting information and of sharing emotions which now become ever new. The study of communication assist us in understanding how the liturgy knows how to transmit "Good News" and elicit emotional involvement which is not always possible to interpret fully. The liturgy is partly itself an alternative culture in daily practice in its content and especially in its acting subject – Christ – and partly attentive to the material and spiritual needs of the human person. Every believer becomes an intellectual communicator, that is a witness. Culture is also a maker of public opinion. It is constitute by two public spaces which overlap: the real in time and space, and the virtual which is almost without time-space coordinates but is equally real. This is a collection of intelligent connections, either in the tiny structure of a smartphone or in the relationships between people. If we consider celebrations online, from the more devotional to those more formally liturgical, acts of worship compose personal and public opinion. One might think of large events in national shrines such as those in Saint Peter’s square. Every participant is an "organic intellectual", that is part of a people having its own "philosophy of practice". For the Church, for religions, the instrument of communication par excellence.
