You Misunderstand

FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE

We believe the account of Jonah is true because God says it is true. 1:2 Only time in the Old Testament that Israel was commanded to pursue the Gentiles. 1:3 Jonah refused. He didn’t say anything, just left town. 1:5 Jonah was the poster child for insensitivity to what God was doing. 1:9 Jonah said the exact opposite of what his actions portrayed. If he had feared God, he would have obeyed His command. 2:1-9 Jonah finally broke and, in desperation, prayed. 2:6 Jonah was smart enough to know God would not have him in the belly of the fish if He did not have a purpose in it. 3:1 God gave Jonah a second chance. 4:1 Here is a glimpse into the true heart of Jonah…evidence he had not repented earlier. 4:2 Jonah himself had just been rescued by God in the midst of his disobedience. He was a walking contradiction. 4:5 Ultimately, Jonah decided that he alone knew what was best, putting himself in the place of God, even though God made His direction evident.
