Minutes from Fall 2015 Meeting of the Oregon Nordic Club-Columbia Gorge Chapter October 17, 2015 at Skip and Janet Tschanz’s gazebo in The Dalles

Meeting was called to order at 7 pm by President Katy Young. Members Present: Janet and Skip Tschanz, Jan and Fred Stewart, Lloyd and Lorrie DeKay, Dean Myerson, Kevin McGillivray, Pedro Tai, Lisa Kidd, Randy Smith, Andre Fortin and Jennifer Barrows. After introductions and a motion for SNOW by Andre, Skip gave treasurer’s report. At start of year we had $11,698. We currently have $8,876, $1155 is Chapter money, rest is Tilly Jane Guard Station. Plus the $5K CD for Tilly Jane bond, which we will be splitting with PDX to cover the A frame interest. They will also share the wood costs. The need for oversight again came up. Lloyd volunteered to back up the treasurer, and keep the spreadsheet on Google Docs. State ONC Report: Janet and Skip attended the Oct 10 meeting in Salem. There are some new officers. Lloyd will get the names and positions from Skip and Janet to update the website. Janet will remain as Treasurer until March. She will retire. Currently 917 members, on the decline. Skip has a stock of the new Fleece ONC logo jackets, which will be sold for $36 as a fundraiser for the club. Members attending the meeting were happy to shop and wear their smurf blue jackets as the temperature cooled that evening. They are available in XL, L, M, S and XS. Contact Skip to purchase. Tilly Jane Cabin: Katy gave an update on the Lease and Operating Plan. As of now, there is no lease yet, but the operating plan is ready. The lease runs out the end of this year (12/31/15). There was discussion on A Frame vs Guard Station, and the confusion when Tilly Jane Cabin is used by Reserve America. Need to make sure the two are distinguished, and that Reserve America gets it right. Last winter there was a renter who broke a window to get into the Guard Station, when he was supposed to be at the A-Frame. Kevin, Pedro and Katy reported on the Work Party and Projects. Both cabins were serviced by the Chimney Sweep, Guard Station should be done every two years. Project reports will be sent to Lloyd for storing on Google Docs. The wood room window that was broken was part of the Forest Service remodel, and is not historically accurate. Pedro replaced the glass. A rebar protector is being made. The door threshold was also part of the Forest Service remodel, was poured with a bad incline that directed water into the cabin. It was rebuilt and now slants away from the door. Wood party was a success. About 80 people ages 8-77 moved 9 cords in 3.5 hours. There were raffle prizes this year. Andre wants to expand for next year. Chapter weekends for this season are: Fri/Sat Jan 1/2Feb 12/13; Mar 4/5; and April 8/9. The Guard Station Committee will be meeting again soon. Web Site Report: Lloyd reported everything working fine but needs NEW CONTENT! Send info to Lloyd or let him know if you would like training to post yourself! Winter Activities: Janet would like to be social chair for the winter. We will pretend it is going to snow. There will be an event on New Year’s Day, a moonlight ski, possibly a trip to Crater Lake again, and sharing of the PDX trip agenda. Skip will get an article in the paper to drum up interest in the club. The next meeting will be our annual membership dinner at China Gorge in early January, TBD. The meeting adjourned at about 8 pm.
