Hikes would have field trip permission slips and school provided transportation. Alyssa Brownlee offered transportation if school vehicles were not available. Patrick moved to approve the McKenzie Trekkers Hiking Club, seconded by Darla and unanimously approved. REPORTS & DISCUSSION 1-Principal Lane provided an update to the board via e mail: Attendance: Elementary - 96% of elementary students are at or above 90% attendance for the month. The Middle and High School currently sits at 85% of students attending 90% or more days. I’m working to improve on our communication to students, families and community stakeholders. I’m trying to update our Facebook pages each day. I’ve been writing a blog entry each week (http://principaltompkins.blogspot.com/) which highlights what happened the previous week and what events are coming up in the current week and in the future. We Are McKenzie Night 9/22 Approximately 150 parents, students and community members were present or represented. Teacher and Administrator evaluation system changes are coming. Kathy Keable and Corey Culp will be working with me as we reevaluate the federal governments desire to have Student Learning and Growth goals tied to Smarter Balanced scoring as measured by Student Growth Percentiles. Safety Week 10/12 - 10/15 Staff and students participated in Directed Evacuation, Fire, Earthquake/Higher Elevation, and Lockdown/Dangerous Person drills. The drills went smoothly. There are new elements in the Lockdown/Dangerous Person drill due to the implementation of our A.L.I.C.E. protocols. Oregon RTI Tier 2 & 3 Training 10/13 & 10/14 Lacey Joy, Mike Abrams, Mary Lipp and myself as the District Implementation team attended training in Salem to support us in further implementing RTI in our elementary classrooms. PSAT on 10/14 & 10/15 - Students in grades 11-8 took the PSAT. GEAR-UP Family Kickoff Meeting on 10/15 7th and 8th grade students and their families attended the GEAR-UP Kickoff Event hosted by Brent Caulley and Lacey Joy. This served as an orientation to the GEAR-UP program as well as to the student iPad pilot. Students in 8th grade received their iPads on Monday. The 7th grade students will receive theirs as soon as they arrive from Apple and get set up. The Lane County Sheriff’s Department will be meeting tomorrow with students and staff regarding the Every 15 Minutes program. You are invited to attend tomorrow’s session with HS Staff. We’ll be meeting in the HS Staff room at 12:30pm.
Staff Collaboration Half Day 10-22-15 These half days have allowed teachers to analyze achievement data to make decisions about instruction. Staff will look at the students who are currently receiving supports in reading to see if they are progressing and if the intervention they are placed in is working. Mike Abrams has facilitated these meetings.
2. Financial Wendy reviewed the financial report. $112,000 Revenue $3000 Tax Revenue In November and December we will receive the majority of our property tax money. Expenditures $260,000 The beginning fund balance is very important to have to carry payroll and expenditures through November when we begin to receive our tax money. Jim mentioned October enrollment is down 30 students from June enrollment. Wendy said the district is getting paid for enrollment of 215, we currently have enrollment of 185. Next year we will get paid at enrollment of 185; we would receive $230,000 less than we will receive this year. The district is currently on a supply spending freeze. The board discussed ways to increase enrollment: foster families, foreign exchange students, Chamber of Commerce website link to our school website, marketing our school. 3-Superintendent

Wendy will contact Sarah at OCF and ask her to come to a meeting with the McKenzie Scholarship Committee in November to explain scholarships and endowments. Sarah from OCF will come to the December board meeting to answer questions the board may have on the scholarship decision. This would involve board approval of the transfer of funds from the Pat Steele Scholarship C.D. at Umpqua bank to Oregon Community Foundation. Kathy Keable is promoting the sale of McKenzie Education Foundation Calendars for $10.00. The calendar features wonderful black and white pictures from Lane Country Archives of the McKenzie River area.
