Bear Cubs

Miss Karin & Miss Kera We cannot believe that summer has come to an end. We hope that everyone enjoyed their summer and had a lot of fun! The Bear Cubs are sad to see our friends move on to the next chapter in their journey, but we are very excited to welcome our new friends! We are ready to help them learn and grow. There are a lot of fun and different things that we will be talking about during the month of September. As we being the month, we will be looking at farms and everything that is involved with farming. There will be some animal artwork and lots of stories about farm life. The second week of September we will be talking about fairs. There are a lot of fun activities and food to explore at the fair. We can’t forget about all the animals that we see there too! Our topic for the third week will be Welcoming Fall!! We will be talking about all of the different color leaves that will begin to appear on the trees, as well as some of the animals that are out about preparing for the winter season ahead. Our last week of September, we will talk about Johnny Appleseed and some different types of food that we eat during this time of year. We would like to wish Ashton, Cenzabella, Hadley, Lillian, Lorenzo, and Max the best of luck as they move on to the Monkey Room! We would like to welcome our new Bear Cub friends Addison, Cooper, Frances, and Olivia!

Charlotte enjoys sitting on the floor and playing with all of the different toys! Cooper and Olivia had wonderful first day! Frances has joined our classroom and always has a smile for her teachers! Seth is now able to sit independently on the floor and play with his friends! We are looking forward to a fun September that will be full of lots of different stories and artwork. Please let either myself or Miss Kera know if you have any questions or concerns!!

Monkeys

Miss Holly & Miss Dawn It is hard to believe that a new school year is upon us. We are excited to get to watch each and every child learn and grow throughout the year. We do ask that you remember to dress your child appropriately as we will continue to go outside daily between the temperatures of 25 and 90 degrees weather permitting. Please remember that sneakers are best for outdoor play. Throughout the first week of September we will learn about ourselves and how we are alike, yet we are all different such as we all have skin, eyes, hair however they are all different shades. We will look at ourselves in the mirror as we talk about our features. We will measure each child and see how tall they are. During this week each child will be

assigned a specific day to bring in special items such as their favorite book, their favorite snack, and some favorite photos. A letter will be sent home with each child explaining the activity and what should be placed in the “Favorites Bag” along with a date assigned to each child if for some reason the date picked for your child does not work out please let myself or Miss Dawn know. The night before your child’s turn there will be a yellow bag labeled my favorites placed in your child’s cubby please take this bag home as you then may send all items back to school in this bag thank you for all your help to make this activity a success. The second week we will focus on apples and what color are the apples we see? We will cut an apple open to see what shape is inside of an apple. At the end of the week we will make a graph and decide which color apple we like the best. Our last two weeks we will be “Down on the Farm” we will learn about each animal and what sound each animal makes. We will attempt throughout the week to match mommy and baby animals together. At the end of our two weeks we will see if we can identify which animals we see on the farm and what animals we see when we visit the zoo. Please remember that FLCCC will be closed on Monday, September 5th in observance of Labor Day.

Hummingbirds

Miss Lisa & Miss Arica Dear Families: We had a lot of fun this summer! In August, we had fun playing carnival games and Olympic games!! Everyone did such a great job!! You are all Olympians!! We also enjoyed spending time in our tent while "Relaxing In The Woods"! And we ended

the year with a dance party summer luau! Lastly, in August we welcomed a new friend to the Hummingbird room. Welcome, Cameron! A new school year has begun! Miss Arica and I are looking forward to a fun and exciting year of learning with our new group of friends! Welcome to the Hummingbird Room! Our themes for the month of September will be: Back To School, Family and All About Me, Farm (2 weeks), and Fall. The end of August, beginning of September, our theme will be Back To School. During this week we will be getting to know our new teachers and friends, as well as get reacquainted with our old friends. First, we will work on becoming familiar with the Hummingbird classroom routines. Then we will become acquainted with our classroom rules and as a whole class we will discuss the expectations for the children in the Hummingbird Room (this will be an ongoing process). We will also focus on identifying our colors and shapes this week. Lastly, we will read some fun stories about school and using the potty! The next theme will be Family and All About Me. Families are very special; so to celebrate that point we will explore the family trees that are hanging up in our room. We will identify family members in the pictures: Mommy, Daddy, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and pets! We will also focus on what makes each child special and unique. At the end of the week, we will graph our eye color! Lastly, we will focus on numbers, counting, and identifying our colors! The following two weeks our theme will be the Farm. We will discuss and identify animals that live on a farm and the sounds they make. We will sing and dance to many songs about farm animals. We will also read a few stories about farm animals and work on a number of art projects. Lastly, we will focus on identifying colors, shapes, and the beginning letters in our first names.

The last week of the month our theme will be Fall. We will discuss the changes we see and feel during fall. We will also go on a nature walk, weather permitting, to collect leaves. We will then do an art project with our leaves! We will also sort paper leaves by color. Also, We will play a Leaf Letter Matching Game. Lastly, we will move to music like falling leaves! Finally, a few reminders to all families:  We ask that all families please check to make sure that your child's extra clothing is seasonally appropriate. The weather will start to become cooler so please be sure to send in at least two sets of seasonally appropriate extra clothes in case of accidents or spills. Thank you for your help with this!  Cold lunch items will go in the big refrigerator in the school age room. We ask that you please DO NOT put lunch boxes in the Hummingbird container in the refrigerator. There is not enough room in the refrigerator for lunch boxes. We have found that it works really well if you place all the cold items from your child's lunch in a plastic Ziploc bag labeled with your child's name. Thank you very much for helping us out with this also! Now to share some news about our Hummingbird friends... Annie is a super listener. She likes to tell Miss Lisa, "I'm being a good listener!" Annie also loves the color green! She points out every green item she sees and says "Green!". Cameron is a new Hummingbird friend! Cameron loves Mickey Mouse and he likes to put Mickey in the shopping cart and push Mickey around the room! Carys knows her opposites! She knows front and back, up and down, fast and slow, in and out, and open and closed! Carys is also very good at sorting by colors! Elijah was looking at our Dinotrux poster. He pointed out the triangles and worked on identifying the circles, squares, and rectangles.

Elijah found two rectangles on the poster that were not outlined. Good finding! Also when in the Moon Bounce, Elijah noticed a pattern. He said, "it's blue, green, blue, green, blue"! Awesome! Grady was playing with a friend outside on the climber. They were pretending to watch trains. Grady yelled, "Caboose!" And pointed out the climber window. They also said they saw ducksblack, yellow, and blue ducks! :) Hunter said to Miss Lisa one morning, "I want to fly in an airplane. Sometimes you can have fun in an airplane"! Izabelle was playing baby dolls with Carys and Maliyah. One of them said, "I have Kaitlyn". Another said, "I have Ashton". The third one said, "I have Lilli"! Also during lunch one day Izabelle found a "M" in her spaghetti. I made the M sound and Izabelle said, "Mmmm for Maliyah!" Very good connection! Luke has a great throwing arm! He likes throwing tennis balls from the ball bin and bouncing them off the deck. The furthest ball he threw went past the climber! Luke said, "I throw it real high into the grass!" Maliyah is doing really well with potty training! She has made a quick transition to underwear and wakes up dry at nap time! Go, Maliyah! Maliyah is also a great friend to our new friend, Cameron. He was sad when walking down the hallway and Maliyah stopped and went to him and took his hand and said, "It's okay...take my hand", and walked with him to the room. Super helping!

IMPORTANT DATES: September 15, 16, 17- Oley Fair Meet The Teacher – September 28th @6:30pm We look forward to a fun year of learning in the Hummingbird Room! Thanks for your love and support, Miss Lisa Miss Arica

We are going to have a lot of fun exploring, learning, making new friends, and so much more!! Just some quick information:  This month we will be starting homework as we begin to learn our letters. Each child will have their own folder with their homework. Homework will be sent home every Wednesday and we ask that it be returned by the following Tuesday. This is optional but we encourage this. It helps the children understand and learn. They also love showing their work to their teachers.  We will be doing a monthly family project. This month we will be sending home an Apple. Directions will be attached. We ask that you please help your child complete this project and return to school so we may hang them on our board for the children to share. After each month is over we keep the family projects and put into your child's portfolio that you will receive at the end of the school year. If you have any questions about the monthly projects or need a new copy please let us know.  Each week that the children will learn a letter there will be a show and tell. For show and tell we ask that you bring in an item that begins with the letter we are currently learning about. Please label your child's item and place in a bag. Please place the show and tell in the bin under the science table. Your child may participate more than once a week if they would like. Once again if you have any questions please ask. Our overall theme for the month will be Back to School. To start off our new school year we will get to enjoy a long weekend. The center will be closed on Monday, September 5th in observance of Labor Day! We hope everyone enjoys this time. As we return on Tuesday our friends will begin learning

The children will learn what the letter "Cc" wounds like along with words that begin with this letter, what it looks like, and how to write the letter both capital and lowercase. They will be doing worksheets and other projects to help them understand these concepts. This week we will start with homework and show and tell. The week of the 12th the children will have fun exploring and learning about the farm and the letter "Ff". The children will be getting their hands dirty as they explore and understand things that happen on a farm. We will discuss items, animals, food and many more things that belong on a farm and help keep a farm running. We will also focus and learn how to write the letter "Ff". Homework will be sent home to review the letter. Make sure to bring your show and tell. The week of the 19th our Dinosaur friends will learn their shapes. Each day will focus on a different shape. them inside and out. We will also use apples to make some art projects. The children will also learn to write the letter "Aa". Homework will be sent home to review the letter "Aa". Show and tell will also be this week. Don't forget your "Aa" item.

Welcome back! Our FLCCC staff is very excited that a new school year is starting, although it seems like just yesterday that we were planning summer activities and field trips. During September, we will be studying a little about ourselves, a little about apples, leaves, and autumn. We will also be talking about the Oley Fair! OVES will be closed on Friday, September 2nd, 2016. FLCCC and OVES will both be closed on Monday, September 5th, 2016 in observance of Labor Day. OVES will also be closed on Friday, September 16th, 2016. If your child is attending FLCCC on either day that OVES will be closed, please be sure to send in a lunch. FLCCC will have a field trip to the Oley Fair on 9/16. If you would like your child to attend, be sure to fill out a permission form. Just as a reminder, we will be going outside everyday in the morning, weather permitting. It may start to get cooler as September progresses so please be sure to send in something appropriate for your child to wear. Our parent board for the school age children is located to your right when you walk through the front doors. The parent board will have a lot of important information, including a schedule, lesson plans, and a snack list. Please be sure to check your child's mailbox often! I hope that your new school year starts off great. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to share them with any school age teacher.

Summer has quickly come to an end. We had a wonderful first few weeks of school. We welcomed back a number of returning children, said goodbye to a few friends who started school in Brandywine, Boyertown, Exeter, and Antietam School Districts. We are excited to meet many new families who have joined our after school group. The children will be arriving between 3:30 and 4:00pm each day. We ask that parents please contact us if their child will not be attending any day after school, so we will not have to contact Oley Valley Elementary. If you will be picking your child up in the parking lot please be sure to see Miss Laura before you leave. This helps ensure that all children are accounted for. Children will be offered an afternoon snack when they arrive off the bus. We will also provide help with homework until 4:30pm each day and ask that parents let us know if they would like their child to do homework or not. During the month of September, we will be reviewing our Gator class rules, and getting to know all of our new friends. We will also be preparing for the Oley Fair and discussing the different activities that will be held at the Fair. At the end of the month we will welcome fall and learn about apples, farming, and the different insects that rely on apple trees. PLAYGROUND/FLCCC SIDE PARKING LOT On good weather days cones are being used to barricade the side parking lot so school age children have a safe area to go outside to enjoy the fresh air and to exercise and play. If you see the cones please park in the front parking lot. If the cones are not blocking the side parking lot, it can be used. Please drive cautiously in the parking lots and watch for children.

SCHEDULES Due to high enrollment, schedule changes are more difficult to accommodate. Parents must check with Laura or Jamie about any schedule changes. Teachers cannot OK schedule changes.

The following staff will be recognized for years of service at Friedens: Miss Laura – 9/1 – 6 years Miss Lisa – 9/5 – 4 years Miss Caryl – 9/26 – 4 years Miss Roseann – 9/30 – 25 years

SUGGESTIONS WELCOME! If you have any concerns or suggestions to improve the quality care given to children at FLCCC, we would like to hear them. Please feel free to talk to Miss Jamie or Miss Laura, in person, by phone or by writing a note and placing it in the suggestion box on the Sign-In counter.

POLICY: DELINQUENT PAYMENTS Our policy on delinquent payments was updated as of 3/1/16. The policy now reads:

SUNDAY SCHOOL Friedens Lutheran Church Sunday School has classes each Sunday morning from 9:15 to 10:15 am for ages 1 through adult. FLCCC’s children, parents, and families are always welcome to attend.

TUITION/BILLING  Families are encouraged to keep their tuition balances up-to-date.  Over-due balance notices are usually distributed on Monday afternoons of each week. Remember, these notices are based on the previous Friday’s balance and do not include the current week’s charges. These notices can be found in the children’s cubbies or ask Miss Laura, or Miss Jamie.  Overdue tuition balance notices are usually available and distributed on Mondays. Please help us recycle the overdue envelopes by returning them to the FLCCC office.

You will receive a balance statement at the beginning of each week reflecting the previous week’s unpaid balance. All payments must be received by the 15th of the month following the dates of service (ex. January charges must be paid by February 15th) or your child’s care will be suspended until payment is made to the account. If the payment has not been received within 30 days the delinquent account will be forwarded to a collection agency. If you are experiencing financial problems, please contact the directors to work out a payment plan.
