CITY OF BOSTON  FOR CITY COUNCIL    

   ORDER FOR A HEARING TO DISCUSS BOSTON  PUBLIC SCHOOLS’ 2015/2016 MASTER   FACILITIES PLAN           WHEREAS,

   WHEREAS,

The  Boston  City  Council  appropriated  approximately  $1.5M  for  Boston  Public  Schools (BPS)  and the City of Boston to conduct a comprehensive 10­year Master  Facilities Plan that commenced in the Fall of 2015;  The Boston  Public Schools estimates it will enroll over 57,000 students next year,   representing  about  three  quarters  of  all school  aged students  in  Boston,  and the   Master Facilities Plan will likely affect every BPS student in the coming years;  The  Master  Facilities   Plan  examines  the   assessment  of  BPS  facilities,  its  educational  programming, future demographic outlook, and possible avenues for  financing any changes to all of BPS’ facilities that are deemed necessary;  The  Mayor  of  the  City  of  Boston  has  stated  to  members  of  the  press  that  the  Master  Facilities  Plan  may   cost  the  City  of  Boston  as  much  as  $1B,  and  the  financing will likely require the approval of the City Council of Boston; 

   NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED,  That  the appropriate committee of the  Boston City Council  hold a hearing to discuss the Boston  Public Schools’ on­going Master Facilities Plan. Those invited to  provide perspective will include  representatives  of  the  Boston  Public  Schools,  and  the  City  of  Boston,  consulting  agents,  along  with other interested parties.
