Intercultural Club (ICC) Constitution Founded 2007 by Shawn Henry Revised Spring 2017 ICC Mission Statement In this green place, the Intercultural Club (ICC) aims to help Green Mountain College to be a place where the quality of education is enhanced and enriched by a diverse campus community--where all the student body and surrounding communities benefit from activities that promote multiculturalism. ICC welcomes all students interested in fostering multicultural communication and understanding. Vision Statement The Intercultural Club (ICC) works to ensure a positive Green Mountain College experience for all students as well as to enrich the experience of all students by promoting multiculturalism on campus and in the community of Poultney. The center fosters inclusion and respect for all in the GMC community. The ICC also seeks to enrich the experience of the entire student body and community by providing opportunities to engage and educate the campus as a whole on issues related to diversity and international studies. ICC works together with a variety of campus constituencies, encouraging ongoing dialogue on issues of cultural exchange between students, staff, and faculty. The Center also helps bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the campus by sponsoring various workshops and events; housing a collection of books and videos related to diversity and multicultural issues. Short-Term Mission 1. To create more awareness of all ethnic and cultural groups on campus and in the larger community. 2. To show that GMC values students, staff, and faculty of diverse ethnic backgrounds at GMC. 3. To welcome and support international students and students of color at GMC. 4. To network, socialize, make new friends, and to be a positive voice on campus. Long-Term Mission 1. Increase appreciation of cultural and ethnic diversity. 2. Encourage a campus environment that is comfortable and conducive to learning and growth among diverse populations. 3. Be a support network that ensures that students of color and International students meet or exceed graduation goals. 4. Encourage the integration of multicultural perspectives into and across the GMC curriculum. 5. Encourage research, scholarship, and creative activity in the area of International studies. 6. Networking with other campuses and International Studies Programs in Vermont.

Article I. Name The name of this organization shall be Intercultural Club (ICC). Article II. Purpose Section 1 In this green place, the Intercultural Club (ICC) aims to help Green Mountain College to be a place where the quality of education is enhanced and enriched by a diverse campus community--where all the student body and surrounding communities benefit from activities that promote multiculturalism. ICC welcomes all students interested in fostering multicultural communication and understanding. Section 2 Intercultural Club representatives will promote the value of community and multiculturalism by encouraging all students to participate in campus social activities and promote social activities that are of particular interests to the ICC purpose. Section 3 Intercultural Club representatives will promote learning through activities that develop and focus on increasing understanding and intercultural competence of all students. Section 4 Intercultural Club representatives shall promote service for the College and the larger community. Section 5 Intercultural Club representatives shall promote the Environmental Liberal Arts reverence for the diversity of life by utilizing campus forums, media services, and participation in the Diversity & Inclusion Committee in order to create opportunities to discuss issues of race and ethnicity. Article III. Partnerships A. The Intercultural Club creates events that are open to everyone and supports the college’s policy of equal opportunity and fair treatment of all persons. B. The officers will be responsible for recruiting partners, tracking partnership as it changes, and determining if partners should be removed. C. Discrimination will not be tolerated. D. Active partners will be those students who attend and participate in meetings and programs. Article IV. Elected Positions

Section 1 - Election The Intercultural Club (ICC) members will elect the Governing Board of the Intercultural Club. Unfilled positions, including any at-large seats, can be filled with appointees approved by a simple majority of the club members. In the event of a tie vote, there will be a revote. Section 2 - Transition Current officers will remain in position for one year until new elections are held. Terms of office will be from May of the current year to May of the following year. Previous officers are responsible for explaining the duties of their office to new and incoming officers. Section 3 - Nominations A. Nominations for positions on the Governing Board should be taken from the club members. B. Nominees will share a short speech with the club members to explain their qualifications for the position. C. Only active GMC Students may be nominated for office. Section 4 - Election Procedures A. Election dates will be set by the current slate of officers B. All voting will be by secret ballot. The vice president and one advisor will count the ballots. If the vice president is a candidate, another officer of the Governing board who is not on the ballot will be designated by the Governing board. C. The candidate with the highest number of votes will be the new officer in that position for the upcoming year. Article V. Intercultural Club Governing Board Section 1 InterCultural Center Governing Board officers will not receive privileges and/or monetary gain because of their position or office. Section 2 - President A. Attend and preside at all meetings. B. Oversee and coordinate monthly meetings. C. Call special meetings of the ICC when deemed necessary. D. Coordinate annual functions. E. Handle conflicts that arise among club members F. Will attend club assembly bi-weekly meetings or send someone in his/her place G. Lead the efforts to collaborate with other clubs on campus H. Present all programs and activities involving expenditure of college funds to the Officers of the ICC for their approval before those programs and activities are implemented. Section 3 - Vice President

Attend and assist in overseeing and organizing club meetings. Assist president in conducting ICC programs, services, and activities. Initiate Partnership Disqualification Procedure in article VIII. In the event of permanent absence of the president, the vice president shall take over all functions prescribed to the president until a new president is elected.

Section 4 - Treasurer A. Keep careful, accurate and full reports of the expenses of the organization. B. Fill out all paperwork for handling all ICC finances C. Monitor, document, and draft budget proposals for all program activities. D. Write monthly written report of club expenditures and general finances E. Head all fundraising activities and report them to the Governing Board F. Generate new fundraising ideas. Section 5 - Secretary A. Maintain attendance records of club meetings and events B. Record and maintain minutes of general meetings. C. Prepare, keep, and distribute copies of the minutes of the general meetings of the ICC to club members D. If there is not a Public Relations Marketer, the Secretary will take on those duties Section 6 - Public Relations Marketer A. Prepare advertisements for club events and activities such as flyers, signs, banners, campus-wide emails, etc. B. Write necessary publications. C. Lead recruiting of ICC members D. Initiate and maintain contact with the college public relations office/student involvement Section 7 - Faculty/Staff Advisor Shall be a member of the faculty/staff of Green Mountain College and shall serve in an advisory capacity to the organization. Article VI. Meetings Section 1 General Public Meetings open to partners shall be held at least twice a month during the academic year, according to the convenience of officers. Section 2 Emergency meetings may be called by the president and vice president of the ICC. Section 3

Active partners will be those who have attended 50% of general meetings held in each semester. Article VII. Partnership/Officer Disqualification Section 1 The ICC Governing Board has the power to suspend and relieve from office any officer of the ICC. Section 2 Any partners or officers in any capacity of this organization are open to disqualification under the following conditions: A. Continuous, flagrant violation of this constitution, which undermines the purpose and goals of this organization. B. Intentional misuse or mishandling of GMC funds or ICC funds for personal profit. C. Any actions related directly to threatening the existence of this organization as a GMC student organization. Section 3 - Procedures for Determining Disqualification Status A. A member of the Governing Board or a club member will bring up the issue at the next club meeting B. All club members will be notified of the possible disqualification. C. There will be a discussion regarding the charges during a club meeting and a vote will follow to determine disqualification. Article VIII. Impeachment Section 1 An officer may be removed from his or her position due to neglect of duty, inefficiency in office, or any other action considered detrimental to the name or purpose of the organization. An officer may be removed from office by a majority vote from club members, present and voting, at a meeting by the organization. Article IX. Amendments Section 1 A. All club members will be made aware that there is a proposed amendment B. Club members will vote at a meeting on the amendment(s). A ⅔ majority will pass the amendment. Section 2 Officers of the Intercultural Club Governing Board shall be enrolled students of Green Mountain College.

What should be in the Center? 1) Research & Materials​ ​on Intercultural Studies and International Study programs; some of which will be in electronic formats,internet links, and a limited number of periodicals & paper publication materials. 2) Mentorship programs​ for first year International students. First year students would have a one hour a week session with students that have been here for more than a semester, a big brother type program where freshmen International students will have an upperclassman who can be of assistance whenever needed for the first year at Green Mountain College. 3) Regular workshops​ for anyone, developed on an ad hoc basis, about Intercultural and International issues. 4) Media Center​ on a small scale, where international films and documentaries will be shown 5) Community outreach​ dialogue & mentoring opportunities for high school and middle school students, as well as involvement with local community groups. It is very important that we recognize we are part of a local community that is bigger than this campus. Examples of Intercultural Programs: Faculty Dialogues: Once a semester, informal conversations between International students and faculty to allow for the exchange of knowledge, strategies and experiences to help achieve their learning goals. The Student director, will facilitate. Intercultural Festival The Intercultural Club’s Global Bazaar will be a day of cultural music, food, and performances that will showcase GMC’s on-campus diversity. Cultural Artifact Contributions History plays a significant part in who we are and how we are seen by others. ICC will encourage Students, faculty, and staff to share their cultural history by donating or lending personal mementos or travel souvenirs that will convey the history of their heritage. Film Series & Guided Dialogue Each semester, the Intercultural Club will screen a selection of films exploring diverse cultures, cultural perspectives and social justice issues. These topics will then be shared in a group dialogue facilitated by a faculty/staff member or invited guest. Speak Up An Open Mic program that will showcase the life as an International Student at GMC. General Fund for Intercultural activities

The club budget will be used to fund ICC activities and events, which will benefit the GMC campus and community.
