AL D’AGOSTINO JIM WETMORE Chapter officers and members work behind the scenes to keep the Chapter actively focused on KWVA mission and plan Chapter meetings and activities that meet member needs. Ensuring that the basics (meeting room setupprograms are scheduled-meeting agendas are published), all require the efforts of committed officers and committee members. Add to that scheduling special events, preparing the monthly newsletter, keeping the chapter written and photographic record, submitting articles, reports, dues payments to national, fundraising, keeping track of ill members, and other activities. February speaker All of that effort is enhanced, if members keep take the time to Col. Paul Sawyer open and read the Bulldog Bugle when received by US Mail or by email. If members check their calendars and promptly respond to notices of special events or activities posted in the Bugle, announced at meetings, or sent out via email and US Mail. If members keep the Chapter secretary informed of changes in contact information and member status. Active engaged members help ensure the KWVA legacy. I conclude with asking that each of us make it our priority to greet as many members as possible each time we meet, and each of us to make special efforts to greet visitors who have never attended one of our meetings, or members or visitors who have not attended for several months. Sincerely, Alves [A.J.] Key Jr. (President) Volume 17 Issue 3

JOKE OF THE MONTH There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible to her brother in another part of the country. "Is there anything breakable in here?" asked the postal clerk. "Only the Ten Commandments." answered the lady. Volume 17 Issue 3

GENERAL WALTON H WALKER CHAPTER 215, INC FEBRUARY 2017 MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES The Gen. Walton H. Walker Chapter #215 Membership Meeting was held on February 18, 2017, at the Veterans Park Event Center in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Chapter meeting was called to order by President Alves Key with 53 Members and 7 Guests. The Invocation was given by Chaplain Don Jones followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag conducted by James Sharp. David Moore read the Chapter Creed followed by a moment of silence. President Key welcomed all our Guests and also noted that it was good to see some of our members who attended after not being able to attend at many other meetings. President Key asked for motions to approve the January Membership Minutes and the January Financial Report, both presented in the February Bulldog Bugle. A motion was made by David Moore to approve the January Membership Minutes. Jack Doshier seconded and the motion carried. James Sharp made a motion to approve the January Financial Report and Dottie Harris seconded and the motion carried. President Key then asked Chaplain Don Oberholzer to give the blessing for the luncheon food, and asked before the blessing, that the Guests, Ladies and those who needed help to go to the head of the line. Chaplain Don Oberholzer then gave the blessing for the food. After lunch President Key called the meeting back in order and introduced our Speaker Paul Sawyer who presented the rest of the story about the Manhattan Project which was highly secret and at the time intelligence had determined that the Germans were already working on the development of an Atomic Bomb. Paul remarked that Einstein and others had talked to President Roosevelt about this and warned him that if they were successful it would cause the Germans to win the war. Paul stayed on the project until the bomb was produced by scientist lead by Enrico Fermin on the project and gave many statistics about its development and the final use of the two bombs dropped upon Japan and finished a good history lesson about the Manhattan Project and its success, that stopped World War II by the final destruction of Axis and Japanese Armies with a complete surrender to the Allied Forces. COMMITTEE REPORTS: President Key gave a report on those on our sick list who are Janet Baker, Marvin Dunn, Al D’Agostino, Ed Singleton, Fred Berry, Calvin Langford, Bob & Mary Couch and Bea Hoyle, who now is cancer free, and Abraham Rodriguez, Jim Wetmore and James Tew. He also reported that Eldon Armstrong had a stroke, but is recovering. He also stated that Sam Bass was not feeling good enough to come to our last two meetings. He mentioned that the members on our Chapter Sick List need to be contacted and certainly needed our prayers for their healing and recovery. Quartermaster James Lucas presented new member John Barry with a Chapter Shirt with a Chapter Patch & American Flag sewed on and also a Korean Defense Service Ball Cap. Since Coy Quesenbury was not present he will receive his Chapter Shirt with Chapter Patch and Flag and Hat at a later date or the next meeting he attends. OLD BUSINESS: President Key reminded the Members of the invitation to attend a banquet meeting, in Houston, TX, hosted by the Sae Eden Presbyterian Church of Korea. They will furnish a bus to bring the Chapter Members to Houston where a Banquet will take place at a hotel at 5:30 pm on Saturday June 17, 2017. A return to Grand Prairie will be by bus on Sunday June 18, 2017. President Key will notify the Host the number of Chapter Members and their one other person allowed, by the end of February.

NEW BUSINESS: President Key reported that the March Meeting will be a Favorite Dessert Auction and possibly a couple of videos on March 18, 2017 at our normal time and place. 1st Vice President Jack Doshier stated that we also need food brought so we do not end up with only desserts. He also noted that the desserts would then be available for eating. The funds brought in will go to the Chapter for other things the chapter needs during the year. President Key reminded the Membership that the June Membership Meeting time was changed by the Executive Council to June 24, 2017, since many chapter members will be in Houston attending the above Meeting. The election of Chapter Officers will be postponed until this date also. President Key introduced Ron Lange as the Election Chairman for our June Election of a President, two Vice Presidents, a Secretary/Treasurer and three Executive Council Members. Gene Richards and Joe Roberts volunteered to be on Ron’s Committee to find individuals to fill the positions. If you wish to run for office contact any one of the three or contact Secretary Mac Swain at 817-2440706 and he will give you a phone number to call. He has an answering service so leave a message with your name and phone number and he will contact you. Bill Mac Swain won the 1st drawing of the 25/50 drawing of $40 and the Chapter received $80 for its 50/50 amount. He then donated his winnings to Office Supplies. Ina Lee Smith won the second drawing of the 25/50 of $40 and donated her winnings to the Chapter Funds. The membership donated $70 to the Hill & Hoyle Fund. There being no further business President Key asked for a motion to adjourn with a closing Prayer. James Sharp made the motion and Dave Moore seconded and President Key gave the closing prayer. IF ANYONE HAS ANY ADDITIONS OR WANTS TO BE TAKEN OFF, PLEASE LET US KNOW. TELL THE STORY -- Jim Lucas found an interesting article in the Military Officer magazine February 2017 issue that could apply to our chapter about “How do I recruit new members?” The article goes on to say that it’s a great question but a tough one to answer because there is no single best response – what works for one chapter may not work for another one. It does say that one common practice that has proven successful for many of their affiliates is sharing your chapter story. A few select reasons to join that you can share with potential members: Make yourself heard. Give back to the community. Influence state legislation. Camaraderie with a purpose. Volume 17 Issue 3
