Scholarships

Applications: Accepted starting August 29, 2016, after completing an International Programs advising appointment. Application deadline is March 10, 2017. Visit www.austincc.edu/studyabroad to schedule advising appointments and for program applications.

Twenty-five $2,000 Board of Trustees’ Study Abroad Scholar- ships are available to eligible applicants on a competitive basis. Applicants must apply to an ACC study abroad program. Other eligibility criteria includes:

Acceptance Policy: Applicants must meet all application criteria and be interviewed by the program faculty leader. Eligibility: Students must be at least 18 years of age and in good academic standing by the start of the program. Students must complete prerequisites prior to the program start date.

How to Apply 1. Download program brochure at www.austincc. edu/studyabroad. 2. Make advising appointment with International Programs at www.austincc.edu/studyabroad. 3. Download application at www.austincc.edu/studyabroad. 4. Fill out application and submit all required items. 5. Submit completed application to International Programs. 6. Schedule and attend interview with program faculty leader. 7. Await notification from International Programs.

Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.00 by the scholarship application deadline. Minimum of 5 ACC college credits earned in the fall 2016 semester. Minimum of 12 hours of ACC college credits earned by the start of the study abroad program.

Payment Schedule Payment is not due at the time of application. A $400 non-refundable deposit is due within one week of acceptance notifications. Final program fee payment deadline is April 3, 2017. All program fee payments must be made on ACC Marketplace. Program fees are non-refundable.

Spain

Spanish IV & Spanish Conversation SUMMER SEMESTER 2017 JUNE 14 to JULY 3 , 2017

Course Information • This study abroad program offers the following courses: Spanish IV (SPAN 2312/3 credits) and Spanish Conversation (SPAN 1300/3 credits). Students in the program will be enrolled in both courses held during the first 5.5-week session. Courses in Austin take place May 3o to June 12, 2017. Courses and program related activities in Spain take place June 15 to July 2. • Prerequisite: Spanish III at the college or university level with a C or better, or equivalent credit by exam. • Program faculty leader is ACC Professor Jan Emberson. Program fee of $3,750 includes: • Airfare from Barcelona to Granada • Accommodations, including host families in Granada (with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and laundry) • Ground transportation to/from itinerary activities • Excursions and entrance fees per itinerary • Welcome and farewell dinner • Airport Pickup and Dropoff in Granada • 24/7 logistics support and emergency assistance Not included: • Airfare • ACC course tuition/fees/books • Meals (not listed in program) • Personal expenses Pre-departure expenses: • International Student ID Card (ISIC - $25) • Passport and visa fees (if applicable) • Vaccinations (if applicable)

¡Bienvenidos a España! The stunning city of Barcelona will be the first stop on our learning adventure in Spain. La Sagrada Familia, Parque Guell and La Casa Batlló architectural gems of the Spanish architect, Antonio Gaudi, that we will visit during our week in Barcelona. During a day trip to Figueres, you will experience first hand Dali’s unique sense of artistic expression in the Salvador Dali museum, after touring the fascinating town of Girona, where scenes from “Game of Thrones” have been filmed. all of which dovetail beautifully with our study of the Arts “Lec. 17” in our curriculum during that week. In Barcelona, you will stroll along Las Ramblas, and see Barcelona and the Mediterranean from the top of the ferris wheel on Tibidabo Mountain, before traveling south to Granada. In Granada you will be a part of daily life in Spain. The learning that will be gained from this experience is unlike any that you will get elsewhere. Classroom time will serve as your lab and preparation for excursions during which you’ll use the Spanish you learn daily. In conversations with other university students during the “Language Exchange”, and in daily conversation with your host family, the theme of our last chapter “Current Events and Politics” will come to life. A typical day will consist of attending class from 10:00 to 1:00, and breaking for lunch and siesta. Afternoon/evening excursions will serve as our lab for “Conversational Spanish”, as well as enable you to learn about the rich history and cultural evolution of the Andalusian region. You will have ample study time in the afternoon, evening, or both. Service learning will allow you the opportunity to work with others from Granada who are volunteering to serve in their community. Touring the Alhambra, learning about Spanish cuisine, attending a Flamenco dance class and performance, relaxing in Arabic baths, participating in a cultural scavenger hunt mixed with assignments that are woven into daily activities, will not only deepen your linguistic and cultural knowledge, but also broaden your world view. This expanded worldview will change you in a way that you will appreciate for the rest of your life! Thank you for considering the program. I look forward to learning with you!
