Brigitta Malm: World War I and the Consequences We Still Live With Brigitta Malm has presented talks on several German-American subjects. This presentation is based on a book review of "All is Quiet on the Western Front” by Remarque with emphasis on the pre-war European history and its consequences.

Wednesday, May 20 | 7:00 pm Daniel Hammer, Deputy Director, The Historic New Orleans Collection Daniel Hammer has a Bachelor's degree in German literature from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and a Master’s degree in Historic Preservation from Tulane University School of Architecture. He works closely with The Collection’s significant holdings relating to the history of the German community in New Orleans. He created an online research pathfinder to these materials, available at www. hnoc.org, and has published and presented numerous papers about 19th and 20th Century German New Orleans, and the German community organizations whose records are preserved at The Collection. His talk will describe the activities of the German Society of New Orleans during the World War One era, and the origins of Deutsches Haus during that time.

There are 5 rounds of 10 questions with drink breaks between rounds. Music is provided between rounds by Eric Hahn. Questions are projected on multiple TV/projection screens. The New Orleans Kinderchor, the New Orleans GermanAmerican Children's Chorus, is a music program celebrating German culture in the vibrant city of New Orleans, with a home at the Deutsches Haus. We meet every Monday evening from 7-8PM and offer a chance to learn traditional seasonal and holiday German children's songs, including translation, meaning/history, pronunciation and singing along with friends. Each season offers a new selection of music, with seasonal blocks from NovemberApril, May-July and August-October. Membership is open and there is no fee to join and no need to have previous experience in singing or German - just bring your curiosity and spirit and contribute your unique voice to our chorus.
