About the 7th MEC Stand. Lead. Make. Tall. Forward. Happen. Even taken word per word, by themselves these words are already strong and are self defining; they need not any other word to define its worth. Yet, if these words are combined together, the thought that they will be creating will be more worthwhile to follow. “Stand Tall. Leap Forward. Make It Happen.” This is the coined theme of the 7th PICPA Middle East Convention (MEC) happening in Qatar on October 1618, 2014. This theme is drawn from the combination of PICPA National’s last year theme A.C.T Now! (Accountability / Credibility / Transparency) and the upcoming theme “LEAP and BEAT the Odds,” which means LEAP (Lead, Excel, Advocate and Participate) and BEAT (Build, Energize, Adapt and Transform). The 7th MEC, first time to happen in Doha, offers a memorable and valuable opportunity to explore in-depth critical issues facing the accountants, to search for possibilities of shining through on these issues, or to try to formulate some new engines to realize the solutions that these issues perhaps require. Noting that the current global landscape of the accounting practice has changed, with technology constantly changing, new standards being raised and competition fierce, CPAs and accountants face numerous challenges in order to succeed, and these have been considered throughout the whole preparation for this conference. “Stand Tall. Leap Forward. Make it Happen.” This theme also has a goal of tackling several business ethics and how unethical and unacceptable practices will challenge the role of accountants in a particular set-up, requiring our critical minds to cater to the demands of our workplaces. As CPAs and accountants, we acknowledge the profession’s responsibility to lead by example in the fight against unethical practices and to exercise our profession with integrity. Integrity is one of PICPAs core values whereby “we advocate the TRUTH and conduct ourselves at all times with honesty, uprightness and adherence to sound moral principles, thereby gaining the respect of the public.” We all need a clearer vision and resolve to navigate the unchartered path of a dynamically changing and unpredictable world business environment where a stronger global pressure to embrace ethical business practices is at hand.
