CITY OF OJAI HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION AGENDA Regular Meeting Thursday, February 9, 2017 The regular meeting of the Ojai Historic Preservation Commission will be called to order by the Chair on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. in the Ojai City Hall Council Chambers, 401 South Ventura Street, Ojai, California. While Historic Preservation Commission is in session all in attendance are expected to maintain order and decorum and to obey the orders of the Chair. Roll Call Pledge of Allegiance Public Communications Members of the public wishing to address the Historic Preservation Commission on items appearing on the agenda are requested to complete a “speaker’s card” and file it with the Secretary prior to the start of the Historic Preservation Commission meeting. Cards are available in the Council Chambers Lobby. All comments should be limited to three minutes, unless additional time is granted by the Chair. Speakers should state their name and address for the record and must direct their comments to the Chair, not the audience or press. While the Historic Preservation Commission is in session, members of the Commission, City staff, and members of the audience are expected to maintain order and decorum and to obey the orders of the Chair1. Public Hearing Item 2. Sign Permit (S 17-02) for the business “OVA Arts” located at 238 E. Ojai Avenue on the City of Ojai Historic Landmark No. 5, the Ojai Arcade. Recommendation: Approve Sign Permit (S 17-02) based on the findings that the sign is consistent with the Arcade Design Guidelines.
Discussion Items 3. Plaque Language for City of Ojai Historic Landmark No. 21 The Maraville Company, aka. Twice Sold Tales located at 121 E. Ojai Avenue Recommendations: 1. Review the proposed language for the Historic Landmark Plaque for the City of Ojai Historic Landmark No. 21 – The Maraville Company; and 2. Direct staff to make any changes and have staff bring the plaque language back to the HPC at their next meeting in March for approval. 4.
Historic Resource Survey Report for Smith-Hobson House/City Hall Recommendations: Review and discuss the Phase 1 Historic Resource Inventory Report for the Smith Hobson House and provide direction to staff regarding a possible request to the City Council to pursue a City Landmark designation of the property.
