June marks our one year anniversary at Hearts of Hope. Amidst the rush of load-shedding last year this time, we gathered under blankets and soaked up the warmth of good company, while hope, courage and a new dream entertained our thoughts.

June is also the month where there is a peak in births (according our new-age encyclopaedia, Google). It also means we are halfway through the academic school year and the beginning of winter. It is thus very pleasant to introduce our latest addition to our family, Siyabonga Masuku, who will be the birth of DanieTeach’s isiZulu teaching possibilities.
Siyafunda isiZulu With passion and a vision, Siya is ready to join in the fun and be part of the future of DanieTeach. His first eLearning Website, Siyafunda isiZulu, will be introduced at the beginning of 2017 and he will represent us at the the Gr 4 - 6 isiZulu workshop this month.

Ouma Salf sê:
Attitude Attitude Attitude It has been scientifically proven (apparently), that having a general positive attitude can do something chemically to the happy hormones in your brain… Now, it is not that I am too lazy to go find this recourse to prove it to you, but rather that I have experience that same theory first hand. Those students, past and current, who mostly achieved more desirable results in their assessments, attended their lessons with a positive attitude. They smiled, they’re polite and they always showed a certain level of interest. But even more credible, is the the fact that I myself have experienced success in approaching tasks with a more positivity - like when I am busy baking for my grand children. I sometimes forget where I placed the mixer or when little Pieter bumps over the sifted flower. All I can do, really, is to smile and to make the best of it. Level: Grade 5 Af: 1. Daar is baie (mens) in die mall. 2. Die verlede tyd vir 'is' 3. 'n Sinoniem vir bly. 7. Nie 'n meisie nie, maar ’n? Dwars: 4. My oom se vrou. 5. Die (lank) man. 6. Groot, groter, die?
But the trick is, from my experience, is to practise patience. That young girl, Tatum Catano, did not progress over night, she had to work a bit harder, feel a bit better, smile a bit more. Eventually, before she knew it, her attitude changed for the better. And so did her marks! Little by little, we can smile a bit wider, talk a bit slower, read with a little less judgement and grow a little. I thank those students who have acknowledged their growth and encourage us all to change our attitudes towards whatever it is, step by step. Liefde,
Ouma Salf
