Allen Elementary Transition Frequently Asked Questions 1. Will the Allen students and staff remain together for the 16-17 school year? Our core value is to keep the Allen community together. We have achieved that goal with one exception, the Allen preschool class (see question #2) due to a preschool licensing requirement. Every Allen student - Young Five through grade 5 - will remain together at the temporary school site. 2. Will the Preschool move to the temporary site? If not, where will it be located? Unfortunately, our temporary school site does not meet preschool licensing requirements. As a result, the Allen Preschool must be temporarily relocated to the Westerman Preschool and Family Center until the Allen school is safe for return. The Westerman Preschool and Family Center is located at 2775 Boardwalk. Bus transportation from the Allen area to the Westerman Center will be provided each day if families have need of this service. We will be in touch with families very soon with additional details. 3. How far away is the new school? The temporary location is just 4.5 miles from Allen Elementary School. The temporary school is located at 105 North Mansfield Street, Ypsilanti. Driving route suggestions will be shared on the Allen School website very soon. 4. Will the school open on time? Yes. Allen School will reopen for the 2016-17 school year as scheduled on September 6th in the temporary location.

5. What time will school begin and end for Allen? Due to the need to allow for transportation from the Allen area each day to the new location, Allen school may begin and end a few minutes later than originally planned. As more information regarding transportation is confirmed, we will share it with parents and will also post on the school website. Teams are working vigorously to confirm daily transportation and start times as quickly as possible so that our parents my plan for the start of the school year. 6. Will the same Allen teachers be in place at the new location? Yes. Your children will learn together with the same excellent Allen teachers and staff. No changes will be made. 7. How will my child get to and from the new school every day? Bus transportation will be provided for all Allen neighborhood students. Students who walk to Allen or others who need transport from Allen to the new location will receive bus transportation to the new location as well. Information regarding those stops and times will be provided as soon as we are able. 8. Will childcare continue to be offered at the temporary location? Yes. Before and after school child care will be available at the temporary location. Details about hours will be coming soon on the Allen school website. 9. Will Allen afterschool Rec & Ed student classes/programs continue in the temporary location? Yes, the Rec & Ed after school enrichment and instructional sports classes scheduled for Allen will continue as planned. Please see Rec & Ed’s fall after school class webpage for what’s being offered at Allen. In addition Rec & Ed’s fall catalog is available now on-line and will be mailed to district homes next week. Registration is open – go ahead and sign up! 10. When can we visit the temporary school site? Principal Beal and the Allen staff are preparing to welcome the entire Allen community to the Back-to-School Meet and Greet at the temporary location. The event is scheduled for August 31st at 5:00pm. We look forward to seeing all of our Allen students and families there. A bus will be provided at the Allen Elementary School for those who would benefit from transportation to and from the event.

11. What is the timeline for Allen to return to their restored building? Restoration and cleaning is in process now. At this time, the safety of the structure is being assessed by engineers, and the answer to how long this timeline will extend is something we cannot know until a full report is completed. Our goal is to work diligently to return Allen to a safe learning and working environment and we must take the time that is needed to make that happen. We appreciate your outpouring of support and your patience throughout this process. At this time, it is too early to know exactly how your support will be best applied.
