New Business Diversity Summit Report
Meeting called to order by Regina Traylor at 1:37pm Approval of March Minutes Diversity Summit Report- Jonathon Lawrence Survey Monkey Meeting Report-Regina Traylor
Jonathan Lawrence attended the Diversity conference. Great insight and information on Bias awareness. How can we change this and how do we feel about this. It can be a touchy subject. There is a history of bias and the need exists to reach out to the white audience to evaluate and understand their bias and then you can make change. Work on 1-2 actions in your daily life. Look at the racial and gender demographics of our services and do these demographics mirror the clients served. Analyze where you work and see if the demographics match. There is disparity in various departments. There is perpetually systemic racism that never changes. The learning of the culture is key. Help the underserved but do not “fix” to be like you. Stereotypes exist and in attempting to be non racist, the message still comes across as racist. Watch our messages to children especially in messages received in a school setting. Very applicable information. Remember the stressors that people are under. Not a hand out but a hand up.
