CLUB NEWS Homan in the clear for Leinster semifinal Fears over Darren Homan's eye injury have been allayed and the big midfielder will be available for selection for the Dubs v Wexford on Sunday. The Round Tower‟s footballer suffered damage to his left cornea late in the game against Meath and had to go to the Mater Hospital after the game.
in the country. It certainly won‟t be the last occasion we will do this. The background to this is that it was decided between both management teams that there was too much of a demand on the dual players in the club who train up to 5 times a week with their different teams. We realise that this is not in the best interest of the players so we developed this novel way of accommodating both codes into the one session. We were delighted at how well the girls took to the other codes whether it is Football or Camogie. Jimmy set the standard high with a very hard warm up but he‟s no hurler!!!!! . The session was finished with a game of football and Camogie… Jimmy is still trying to explain how he ended up playing with the “PROUD CULCHEES” The feedback from all the players was great so we are hoping to do this on a much more regular basis.

Its never to late to score
Darren Byrne proved it is never to late to score. For after a gap of what was rumored to be 15years Darren found the net last Saturday in the senior footballers defeat of a strong Saint Marks in the division 1 league. In fact it has been a very good week for the seniors in the league out twice and claiming the points for both. They defeated a highly favoured Saint Judes on Wednesday. Their next big match is on Saturday June 25th when they face Ballymun Kickhams in the second round of the Championship. We wish them well in this match and hope their form stays with them.

SENIOR B CAMOGIE OPEN CUP 7/6/05 ROUND TOWER 1-6 PORTOBELLO 4-6 The Senior B Camogie panel faced very tough opposition in the form of Portobello last Tuesday evening in the Phoenix Park. Both clubs went into this round of the Open Cup knowing that we had done enough to secure semi-final places, but from the sideline you would think that there was an All Ireland Cup to be won the way the game was played. There was nothing but pride at stake here! Round Towers started very brightly, but the physicality of the game led to some frustration. The two teams were evenly matched throughout the first half, and Towers went in only a couple of points down at half time. As has often been said, a panel will show their strength equally as much when dealing with defeat as well as celebrating the victories. We need to dust ourselves off after the defeat against Portobello and get ourselves psyched up for 5
the Open Cup semi-final. That match will take place on Sunday 12th June at 1pm in the Phoenix Park. The Senior Panel has really been improving over the last few matches so we need to keep the head up and really get ourselves in tiptop condition for this year‟s championship. It was a pleasure to welcome back Lorraine Walsh to the panel, and we look forward to seeing more of her in the forward line over the next few matches. Everybody on the panel battled hard right to the end of the match, and that is the right attitude to have. Report By

[email protected] JUNIOR B FOOTBALL LEAGUE 7/6/05 Round Tower: 2-8 Naomh Barrogs: 1-6 Scene was set for a great clash between two teams going well in the league as Towers took on Naomh Barrog in the Community Centre. The pitch was in perfect condition, marked and as ever the finer detailed were dealt with by one of our behind the scene's heroes Angelo Davis who puts up the nets and flags for each of our
home games and is long over due a huge thanks. We started brightly against a very motivated and well organised opposition, the forward's movement was great to watch as they set about their opponents with grit and skill. It was Davy O‟Shea who caught the eye most with his appetite for work and giving non stop problems to one of Barrog's best players. Stephen Gregg was catching ball and ably assisted by Mick O‟Shea. Squandered chances in the first half caused concern, but in was a goal from Bang Bang Graham that settled us after great work by Ciaran Dunne. The Defence were swarming their opposition with Ronan Minihan and Simon Breslin impressing and the 'Ball Magnet' Philip Bowe mopping up and stealing upfield for a exquisite point just at the break to leave us leading by 6 at the break. The second half saw Noel Quinlan getting to grips with a very dangerous corner forward and a great move resulted in the Hoops being awarded a penalty which Ray Davis cracked home for a goal. Further points saw the home side run out victors against a gallant Barrog side who scored a goal with the last kick of the game. A good win against a good Barrog side who are unbeaten this year topping off a good night for Junior football with the A's and C's also winning well done to all!! Team:

ROUND TOWER GAA CLUB 2005 SUMMER CAMPS July 11 – 15 - FOOTBALL July 18 – 22 - HURLING July 25 – 29 – FOOTBALL

The course is suitable for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 12. All participants will receive a kit pack and top hurlers and footballers will visit the camps. COST: €50 per child. * Reduction available for multiple course bookings and for members of the same family. For Further information Contact: Round Towers Games Promotion Officer Una McKay 085 7135549 SENIOR B CAMOGIE OPEN CUP SEMI-FINAL 12/6/05 ROUND TOWER V PEREGRINES The Open Cup campaign for the Senior B panel came to an end last Sunday afternoon in the Phoenix Park, following the narrowest of defeats to Peregrine‟s. The match was run simultaneously with the other semi-final featuring St. Vincent‟s and Portobello. It will now be Portobello and Peregrine‟s who go head to head in the final. This Senior B panel has been improving since day one, and we can only hope that all our hard work pays dividends in the championship season. There were some fine displays in the semi-final right throughout the pitch. The forwards fought hard and created some lovely scores. Grace Stevens hand-passed a lovely ball to Tonya Allen who, in a move that one might see in Croke Park, balanced 6
the sliotar on her hurl and buried it in the back of the net. Valerie Kelly, Niamh Kearney, Danielle Leonard all had a good game in the forward line and we were unfortunate not to capitalize more on our possession in the first half. In the end, we lost by two points – a heartbreaking result given the fact that we were definitely the better team there on the day. There were some other highlights though, like Trish Egan‟s sideline cut that soared over the heads of everyone (including their goalkeeper) and landed in the back of the net! She swears she was not trying to do a „Maurice Fitzgerald‟ but it sure was a class score. Our championship season kicks off on Thursday 7th July (to be confirmed) against St. Mark‟s up on our Monastery Road pitch. Keep an eye out for more details – all support welcome! Report By
Sharon Jordan UNDER 13 FOOTBALL LEAGUE 14/6/05 ROUND TOWER 1-17 SAINT ANNES 2-8 Another fine win for the under13 footballers in Bohernabreena on Tuesday night against a good Saint Annes side. Towers went in at half time winning by six points, often playing with a strong wind. The second half was a half of mixed fortunes, after playing some great football they lead by thirteen points. Annes were awarded a goal which came back off the upright, much to everyone‟s amazement. This sparked off a Saint Annes revival, but Towers ran out winners by 1-17 to 2-8 and remain on top of the league. Well done to one and all.
