October 2017
Dear Parents, BGSB Ski trip to Jay Peak, Vermont, USA Saturday 30th March to Sunday 7th April 2019 www.JayPeakResort.com I am pleased to propose a ski trip to the resort of Jay Peak in Vermont, USA. This is a repeat of the highly successful trips that the school enjoyed in Easter 2013, 2015 and 2017. Jay Peak is situated close to the Canadian border and receives over 350 inches of snow per year – twice as much as many other east coast ski resorts. Jay Peak’s abundant natural snowfall and unique terrain combine to make some of the most exciting glade skiing in North America. Jay Peak has 76 diverse trails covering all abilities from beginner to advanced skier. The group will be staying at the fantastic Hotel Jay with the benefit of doorstep skiing and also entry into the Aqua Park. This slope-side accommodation has a coffee shop and a selection of cafes and restaurants. The boys sleep in top class rooms for four people in two double beds with cable TV and, of course, a private bathroom. We fly from Manchester with overnight stays in Boston or New York at the beginning of the trip and Goshen, New York at the end of the trip. These stays will include a city tour and time for shopping. The cost of the trip is £1799 and includes:
5 x 5hr instruction by qualified instructors
Ski and boot hire
Lift pass
Half-board accommodation
Return flights from/to Manchester
Transfer in the USA
Comprehensive insurance (please check in case you need to purchase your own for pre-existing medical conditions)
Full day in New York on Day 8. In the past we have had guided coach tours, trips up the Rockefeller Building and games of baseball in Central Park.
Evening entertainment programme
***Please note that there will be an additional Air Passenger Duty Tax (£78 at present) payable if your son is 16 or over on the departure date. This is an unfortunate addition to the cost brought into effect this year. If your son is interested in taking part in this ski trip, a deposit of £300 will be required. A payment schedule and details of how to pay will be issued upon receipt of the attached reply slip. Application for places will be dealt with on a first-come-first-served basis, although priority will be given to students studying in their final year. I recommend an early response to avoid disappointment. Students currently in the 5 th year who do not stay on could potentially lose £150 of their deposit unless a replacement can be found. If your son takes part in this holiday I recommend that he undertakes a course of lessons at a dry ski slope or the Chill Factor to enhance his enjoyment of the trip. However, if this is not possible, the instruction provided will cater for all abilities. Skiing is a demanding sport and boys should be used to regular exercise before considering this trip. Please return the slip by Wednesday, 8th November. Please do not hesitate to speak to me about any of the details in this letter should you have any queries.
Yours sincerely
T J Nicholson Ski trip leader
