Gilpin Tramway / Colorado & Southern Joint Track This trackage is not delineated on the original map but was added by studying photographs of the Black Hawk Yard trackage from the proper time period. Title Block: The Title block on this map was carefully copied from the original. The original map shows evidence of having the Railroad Title “Union Pacific, Denver & Gulf Railway” having been originally inked in the space currently occupied by “Colorado and Southern Railway” If the observer will look carefully, he will find that the letters “CC” and “CCRR” for Colorado Central Railroad are also drawn on this Station Map. The “CCRR” is located in the upper right had corner showing the route going east to Denver. The “CC” is located on a spur track behind the Black Hawk or Bobtail Mill Erasures and Deletions. Looking back on this map 100 years later one can find many places where tracks were built and later removed. There are tracks near the New York Mill that show removed that were earlier photographed with Gilpin Tramway Co. Shay locomotives on them. Immediately to the west the New York Mill is the Old Gunnell Mill, which was the first Railroad Station in Black Hawk. On Main Street one can see the turnout and temporary track that were built to remove the mud and residue from the 1910 flood. Further to the west behind the Black Hawk or Bobtail Mill are the remnants of the Locating Engineer’s “Doodles” in attempting to build a track back into the Mill from the Colorado and Southern trackage. Railroad Property This is the actual property owned by the Railroad within the City Limits of Black Hawk.
