Our Ride Break Facilities Access to multiple good facilities for our mid-ride and post-ride breaks is critical to having a variety of enjoyable rides. Maintaining a favorable public image of cycling in and around The Villages is also critical. One of our favorite mid-ride facilities was the KOA located near the intersection of I-75 and SR 44. Although, for not being good neighbors, we have been asked to no longer use their facility. On many of our rides, the mid-ride breaks are at public parks. For other rides they are at the Russell Stover® candy store, the Girl Scout Camp, Grand Oaks (A.K.A. Carriage Museum), Harbor Hills, and many others. General Guidelines: At all mid-ride and post-ride break facilities, we need to: Be courteous to the operators and other visitors/customers, Be careful where we park our bikes to avoid blocking access of the other visitors/customers, Avoid loud conversations, and Leave no trace in the form of trash or the placement of chairs and tables.
Grand Oaks One of our frequent stops is the Grand Oaks Resort & Museum. They are very concerned about the potential disruption of their operations by visiting cycling ride groups. In 2016 we were told to keep out and Dave Taylor negotiated an agreement with the Grand Oaks Management. Click Here to read the special rules that we need to follow when visiting this facility. The Grand Oaks website has a list of special events that are open to the public. Grand Oaks also has a “Bistro” that is open to the public. If you have the opportunity to thank them for using their facilities, please do so.
Russell Stover® Candy Store see map In addition to the general guidelines, we sometimes make small purchases during our breaks. In addition, we encourage our members to patronize Russell Stover®. While making your purchase let them know that you ride with the SLBC and appreciate the use their facilities. Page 1 of 2

Girl Scout Camp Over the past 11 years, Villagers, including SLBC members, have donated money, bicycles, camp signs, and benches. On occasion, we have also helped with maintenance and other activities including painting, maintaining the bicycles, and constructing a temporary horse shelter. The SLBC has made small donations to the camp and have on occasion organized efforts at the camp. You may want to make your own personal donation to the camp but, you may want to make sure that your donation is used locally. Click Here for information on making a personal donation earmarked to the local Girl Scout Camp. In addition to the general guidelines, there are special rules of the use of the facilities at the Girl Scout Camp: Park your bike outside the gate and walk to the facilities. If the camp store is open, avoid all loud conversation that might interfere with the operation of the store. (There have been complaints in the past). If scout activities are occurring in the immediate area make an effort to be respectful, quiet, and non-disruptive.
Harbor Hills Some of the routes to Harbor Hills offer significant challenges in the form of hills. The Harbor Hills Country Club has a restaurant that is open to the public. They usually advertise their Sunday Brunch. If you have the opportunity to thank them for using their facilities, please do so. Typically, we park our bikes under trees east of the tennis courts and use the restroom facilities located by the tennis courts.
Others: Other notable break facilities include the Adamsville Baptist Church, the Methodist Camp, the Jennings Citrus Shop, Fruitland Park Library, and Leesburg Library, and several gas station convenience stores.
