Orton-Gillingham Bridge from Basic to Advanced 25-Hour Course June 18-20, 2018
Course Overview The Bridge Course is a follow-up to the Associate Level Course. A comprehensive study of Key’s Level III sequence is presented with the focus on strategies for remediation of the older student. Syllables, syllabication rules, spelling rules and generalizations are reviewed as the bridge from phonology to higher level language skills. The morphological layer of English (prefixes, roots, and suffixes) and a sequence of morpheme instruction are introduced. This course is designed for practitioners who have completed the Associate coursework and are ready to work with older students. It is a prerequisite to Certified – Therapy Level.
Course Content Creating a bridge from basic phonology to higher level language concepts
• Characteristics of the older student with languagebased learning challenges • Review of Basic Level III skills, syllables, syllabication, spelling rules and generalizations, and the structural analysis of language • Morphology (prefixes, roots, and suffixes) sequence of instruction and teaching strategies with hands-on activities and modeling of a lesson • Application of knowledge of the history and structure of English to teaching reading and spelling to the older student • Overviews of systematic grammar and structured writing instruction

Summer Institute Fees Orton-Gillingham Bridge from Basic to Advanced $775 – This includes all training books, Key Learning Center manuals and phonogram & morphology card decks. A $200 non-refundable deposit is required with registration by May 30, 2018

Information about Practicum and Certification Key Learning Center offers supervised clinical teaching practicum for certification. Certification in OG/MSLE is based on the guidelines of the accrediting organizations. IMSLEC in association with ALTA offers two levels of certification. The Alliance Registration Exam is required for this certification. AOGPE offers Classroom Educator and Associate Level certifications. See association websites for complete details.
